The Blueprint 2009 Remix Contest: Week 13 Winner

In Week 13 we remixed the remix to “Girls, Girls, Girls.” Kanye’s take on the Just Blaze hit was so refreshing that Jay laid new verses down for it. A lot of the remixes submitted definitely were Kanye inspired, and some were inspired from another planet.. lol. Hit the jump to see who the judges were feeling and the winner for Week 13…

DJ BlacqueStarr

“Girls, Girls, Girls (Part 2)” *In Diddy’s voice* IT’S THE REMIX Take that take that…Haha. Kanye did his thing by flipping up the original and Jay did his part by bringing in new lyrics. One of those rare instances where it felt like a brand new track a la A Tribe Called Quest’s Scenario. So, basically had to come with a remix to the remix which could be a daunting task, but for the most part, everyone did their thing. However, there can only be 5, so let’s get to it, shall we?

5. Tenth – I thought that this flip was a hot one. To me, it sounded like it had a ‘Ye influence just with the choice of percussion. I just thought you could add or subtract some layers to keep it fresh.

4. S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – I was really diggin the guitar with this track. Complimented the drums nicely and Had a bit of that Latin vibe to it. Great job.

3. Bidiriddim – The percussion in the beginning but me in the mind of “Top Billin.” You definitely did a nice job of layering the tracks in order to separate the verses from the chorus.

2. Sima – Great choice in percussion it gave the track that extra bit of knock without the overkill. Also, good looks on adding and subtracting layers to give it some variety.

1. Ion the Prize – This was one stood out the most to me. The samples (Biggie, Method Man, and a bit of Kanye in the chorus and Patti LaBelle in the last verse) were a very nice touch. You did the breaks at the right spots. It’s the little things that matters for sure. Nicjob.

Here at the ones that brought it too and deserves some recognition too.

Honorable Mentions:
Alien, Bezouro, Clear Blue, Confidential, DJ Tommy II Gunz, Essence, getnyce, Isbjerg, Jon Byne, Jukebox, Jazzzmarc, MELLOWDAZE, Psyman, Phurcat, Sec, Tokyo Cigar, Ranson Notes, razorSHARPE, Scam, That Swedish Guy, Tictoc

Thomas

5. (tie) Isbjerg – Like the part of the sample you used. Adding Mos Def to the track complimented Jay well.
Ransom Notes – Tracks sound “musical” and the drums are sharp. I wish some of the elements in the track were more pronounced than they are.

4. RadioKillaz (D.O.E.) – Great use of the sample. I like what you did with the hook.

3. S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – Nice use of the sample. Those Spanish sounding guitars are tough. As always so many layers to your tracks. Good one.

2. Sima – Track is constructed nicely from the drums, chop of the sample, transition from verse to hook, etc.

1. Bidimridim – The b-boy sound of the track is great. You seem to layer your tracks nicely and they always mesh well together. This track isn’t any different.

Honorable Mentions:
Clear Blue, That Swedish Guy, Phurcat, Confidential and Alien.

5. Bidimridim – One of the few remixes where you made it sound like a new song. Those chops are tough homie! Great job!

4. Ion the Prize – You get props alone for all the different vocal samples used and the Patti Labelle sample was WOW!

3. SCAM – This is a track that shouldn’t be fucked with. SCAM you did your thing on this. Definitely save this one and I’m sure any dope emcee would murder it. As for the remix as a whole, Jay seemed like he was struggling to keep up  and the chorus seemed a tad off key from the instrumentation, but again I’m being picky.

2. Tenth – When I think remix, this is what I think of. I loved the chops of the sample and the cuts of “put your number on this paper.” Dug it. Aside from that, the track could have used a little more variation throughout, but that’s just me being picky.

1. Sima – I really just dug the vibe of this. From the sample to the drums, to the breakdown in the second verse… props!

Honorable Mentions:
Tokyo Cigar, Isbjerg, Confidential, Anton Blitz, S.T.T.R.E.S.S., Radio Killaz, 44th Parallel, Ransom Notes, DJ Tommy II Gunz, 44th Productions

CONGRATULATIONS SIMA!

No pun intented, but the person that won this week is who was supposed to win.thats why is was 3 judges that make the decision and not one.I dont always agree with the decisions, but it is what it is.I’m gonna say this and get it off my chest, cuz it has happen too many times with the post, intended to to give the winner their shine.I personally think that it is disrespectful to discuss who someone thinks should of won the contest in the spot that people are bigging up the winner. If someone feels that strongly about who should of won, take it to the cbox or leave a message for that person on their webpage, myspace, etc………. Sorry, but I thought I needed to say something about this matter and it is not pointed at anyone directly.

JUST GIVE THE WINNER THEIR SHINE,THAT’S ALL

    Thanks

I think regardless of the choice, its evident that the 3 judges, meaning three very well trained hip hop ears would have to agree or be close to agreeing on the decision.

I think people still fail to see how difficult it is to judge one of these. I’ve stayed out of them for a reason lol. I mean, let’s not flood a Winner’s thread with hate for the winner. Save that for NahRight.

    good stuff though
