DJ Premier: Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers

Wednesday has officially been taken over by DJ Premier.  For the next few weeks we will be dropping DJ Premier related material from mixtapes, compilations, and our feature (Sample of the Day) will be dedicated to the legendary producer.

The Sample of the Day post will include the original main sample and any other components (even vocal scratches) found in the Hip-Hop/R&B track.  Since these features seem popular a stream and download of the songs will be available.  For the most part DJ Premier uses acapella’s for his vocal samples so they will be included when available.

The First sample will be “Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers” by the Crooklyn Dodgers ’95 (Chubb Rock, O.C. and Jeru the Damaja).  This song was featured on the Clockers soundtrack and was a smoker.  I still favor the original produced by A Tribe Called Quest, but this song is flames.  The only vocal sample I couldn’t id is “Brooklyn” found at the end of the song.  If you know it….hit the comments with the information.

Hit the cut for the stream/download.

Edit: New link with drum sample.

“Strangers in the Night” = thats my uncle Eldee Young on the bass. This is the song that made me get DEEP into hiphop! Love DJ Premeir for this!

Thomas, Primo uses these drums on a number of his productions as Primo does with many of his drum sounds. He’s used them on “Take 2 & Pass,” “Above The Clouds” and some others that are not coming to mind right now. It’s from George Clinton’s “Sample Some of Disc and Some of DAT” project and the song is called I Didn’t Come Rhythm. Hope that helps…Peace
