Here we have a Dilla mix by DJ Rasta Root from outta the ATL and here’s in his own words him describing the concept of making the mix.

DJ Rasta Root says that this mix was a long time in the making. ‘I didn’t want to do a Dilla mix just because he had passed away. I always seem to include a Slum [Village] or Dilla produced track in my dj sets, so I felt like it was time to put all my favorite tracks on one disc that I would listen to. It just so happens that I am able to share that with the world.” Roots also speaks about what can be expected on the mix, “I feel like my strength is mixing and blending, so that what you will get….one seamless blend from start to finish…..no gimmicks, no talking….just DILLA”.

This particular piece was inspired by the title ” The Rest of Dilla”, which hints there’s something missing, like there’s more to come. I wanted to paint something that seemed incomplete to complement the concept. Rasta Root and I have already started to collaborate on other projects, so keep an ear n eye out!” “The Rest of Dilla” is for the fan of one of our greatest producers, James Yancey. plain and simple.

Hit the jump for the tracklist and bump…

I am on my travels – tried to download this but between Zshare and the rubbish wireless I was using, it would’ve taken 3 hours. Shame coz there’s nothing like a Dilla mix on a long commute, I still listen to that ‘Midnight Snack’ mix nearly every Sunday. Will definitely get this when I get back home.

my favorite joint is Say It! i just cant get enough of that amazing beat with Ta’Raach’s spittin some real shit. Jay Love Japan is really a hidden gem in Dilla’s discography, not many people take notice of that album

Dj Rasta Roots is one of the best there is. He definitely represents real hip hop in ATL to the fullest. This is the dude that’s going to play all of your favorite songs and with the illest blends. He def gets the stamp of approval and I’m snatchin anything he drops. Dope mix. Much respect to my man Roots.
