LL Cool J

Props to DJ ReMike who linked us to the Digger’s Union, who link us to DJ Mike Nice’s spot where he’s leaked his rip of a long lost LL Cool J album from 1995. The album, entitled Double L Cools Down, was recorded around the same time as Mr. Smith. Aparently it was put out on the low. I took a brief listen to the 11 track album (which is unordered) and the sound quality isn’t the greatest. Actually, the material itself isn’t that great either. I can see why this was shelved. For the collectors only! DJ Mike Nice also says that he plans to leak a couple more LL tracks at a later date. Apparently one called “Fuck This Shit” was recorded when LL was pissed at Def Jam. It was marked to be destroyed and has never seen the light of day.

Anyway, hit the cut to check this one out…

Hate to break to you guys but some of these joints are songs or mixes that never made it to Mr. Smith. LL has always recorded anywhere from 25 – 50 demos per album project and he and Def Jam would always pick what they think would work based on the current climate of the fickle hip hop audience. Whatever they think would stick they’d go back in the studio and refine it until the final mix, that’s how albums were made back in the days.
