The Blueprint 3: Original Samples

by Kevin on September 1, 2009 · 25 comments

Well, well, well… I know today we are paying dues to Jay’s first album, Reasonable Doubt, but I couldn’t wait another second to share this with you all. Don’t thank me though; thank ya boy YN for the break through of the the original samples used in Jay’s latest album, The Blueprint 3. Just one day after the album leaked on the Net, RapRadar has revealed 9 samples from Blueprint 3. I still haven’t listened to the album in whole yet, so I cannot confirm if these are complete. Props YN!

Check it out after the cut…

dope find, thats pretty much it sample wise but i still think timbos used a couple hidden samples ,especialy in reminder ,im almost certai j dilla used the same intro sample?

2 Kevin September 1, 2009 at 1:34 pm

yeah, we all know Timbo samples and most are tough to track down. I haven’t heard Reminder yet, so I can’t verify just yet. These samples are more than likely not complete. Thomas has already found another sample (or interpolation) used in the first track. If we find a few more, we will do this set up KN style.

i’ll wait for the KN treatment!

Here’s my little review of B3 for what it’s worth:

Better than I expected but I’m not feeling it as much as it seems others are. I’d say it’s on par w/ American Gangster.

Song I’m feeling:
What We Talkin’ About ft. Luke Steele (Of Empire of The Sun)
Thank You (should’ve been the intro track)
D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)
Empire State of Mind ft. Alicia Keys (by far the best track on the album)
A Star Is Born ft. J. Cole (best collab on here)
Already Home ft. KiD CuDi
So Ambitious ft. Pharrell (Jay usually does good with the Neptunes

Tracks I hate
Run This Town ft. Rihanna & Kanye West (this wouldn’t have been on here if it wasn’t for Rihanna, shame cause Kanye rips it)
Off That ft. Drake
Venus Vs. Mars
Reminder

Indifferent:
Real As it Gets ft. Young Jeezy (not bad but seems out of place)
On To The Next One ft. Swizz beatz
Hate ft. Kanye West
Young Forever ft. Mr Hudson

In the end, just too much stuff I’m not feeling for me to really enjoy this album. Maybe I’ll sit on it for awhile and revisit it but off my first few listens, just not that interested in it.

im wonderin if Ye didnt used the same drums Dilla (once again i know) used for “Let’s ride” by QTip on “Run this town” Sample: Humpty Dump by Vibrettes. I don’t know but it sounds a bit bit bit similar if you listen closely- what yall think? I asked myself the first time I heard that song.

Rhapsody is letting us listening to the whole BP3 album a week before it drops. Mad props to you Kevin, doing a great job with the website

8 KVINN September 1, 2009 at 5:57 pm

BTW, totally agree with you Justin

9 Thomas September 1, 2009 at 7:32 pm

Still haven’t listened to the album. Will get the samples tho.

I’ll wait for the KN treatment as well. KN treatments are good for the soul lol.

I was only feeling tracks 3,5,and 7 on the album. “Empire State of Mind” definitely stole the show by using The Moments’- “Love on a Two-Way Street”. I’m calling this one of his weakest albums. “Jockin’ Jay Z” and “Brooklyn Go Hard” should have been on there to make it more of a banger.

I will just say that the only people falling off on this album are Timbaland and Kanye West.

“Hov on that new shit, N***s like how come? N***s want old shit, buy my old album! …”

Really feeling the album! Really versatile shit on it! But I also know most people will complain about it, cause it’s different…

Neptunes interpolated Minnie Riperton’s – “Memory Lane” for “So Ambitious”. Check it out!

AH-HA! @Johnathan Martin…i KNEW i recognized that from somewhere

16 Gibbs September 8, 2009 at 2:17 am

What else was In the Space by Janko Nilovic & Dave Sucky sampled in…I cant figure it out

17 Timi Yuro September 18, 2009 at 2:26 pm

the more i listen to these sample compilations, the more i see how Kanye West really just takes the entirety of a song and lays down some bass behind it, and some snare.
Then again, he’s smart/innovative enough to do it…and get paid!

18 Pfuma Makwembere September 20, 2009 at 7:24 am

@ Jonathan Martin – You are right about the Minnie Ripperton sample for So Ambitious with the horns but the whole feel of the song is very similar to Reasonable Doubts, Regrets, Chords and baseline included

19 smallpro September 27, 2009 at 5:03 pm

@Timi Yuro: u didnt listen to the samples, did you? be honest…

20 Timi Yuro September 27, 2009 at 5:31 pm

@smallpro
yes I did. I didn’t mean it as though all his stuff just sounds like total rips, like the DOA track is basically a total rip IMO. I’m just saying that a few of these songs in this compilation are almost full rips of the original song

21 Isaac October 6, 2009 at 1:07 am

Shit, but That DOA was one hell of a Rip to find LOL, I’ve had that beat stuck in my head all week.
