i think the ‘conan’ track that is sampled on ‘casablanca’ is in fact a track named ‘the funeral pyre’ on the conan soundtrack.

Totally agree with Tokyo Cigar- Album was way underrated. Its no cuban linx, but honestly this era, from this album thru early/mid 2000′s, his flow was untouchable. His style was just nasty, didnt even know what the hell he was talking about half the time but it sounded fly. And “Raw” is a dope track. Smith Bro’s, all those freestyles and guest spots on mixtapes during this period were classic

@Charity “I’m interested in hearing what Thomas’ probs with OB4CL4 are.” <<< Not flawed probably wrong wording. I’m being picky about it tho. And looking for something to complain about. Again, I’ve been waiting for THIS album since ’99. I knew how much the OG purple tape had on the game. I came up when it came out and hit…so that was just a knee jerk comment by me.

As much of a Jay-Z fan I am….I’ve been a Wu fan since 92. Have all of the albums through 1997 and most all core members albums since then. One problem…(that Rae doesn’t have anything to do with) is the recognizable samples. I don’t think Rae or guest outdo the other rapper who used them previously (only in one case to me). But, that’s me being real picky.

I play the album all the way through tho. I would have like it to be only 16-17 tracks, but I can’t find one track to take off. I’m made that the two extra tracks floating around aren’t on the album.

OB4CLII will probably be in my top 10 releases this year. Still need to wait on The Roots, Skyzoo, Sha Stimuli, Cormega, Royce, Ra’s, and Wale’s joint before I make my decision about shaping up a Top List. Finale’s joint is still dope to this day.

This haven’t listened to BP3. Only the first leaked tracks and track #1 and “A Star is Born.” Of course I’m not disappointed yet!

@DJTommyIIGunz I’m not reading any reviews until I listen to the album. Don’t want anything to taint my views of the album. I’m going to add your site to my reader.

dang @Charity I don’t think I’d agree with that. That’s just going a little too far. I think it’s put together than the slaughterhouse album. But that’s mostly because of the newness of the group. but I cant go as far as you did on that one.

@Thomas Did you check out the review I did of the BP3 yet? It’s on my site. just click my name. I didn’t slam it TOO hard. lol. I think I gave the most honest review of it that I’ve seen without all the bs that I’ve seen from the ass-kissing bloggers and the pure Jay haters.

Re: OB4CL2, I mean, Raekwon’s solo album is a better group album than the Slaughterhouse group album. Ouch. This is just the first major record I’ve listened to in a while where every single feature actually enhances the album to some degree — and there’s a perfect balance of them. Balance defines this album: flows that nestle comfortably into beats, beats that impress without steamrolling lyrics. There are many points on the BP3 where the former and/or the latter is simply not the case.

I’m not the biggest Rae generally; I’d rather spring for storytime with Ghostface or GZA’s wordplay. That said, this is just a great piece of work.

Re: BP3, if you hate Jay-Z, you’re going to hate the album; if you like Jay-Z, you’ll probably enjoy the album a lot, so long as you also like Kanye West; if you love Jay-Z, you’ll tell yourself that you love this album but end up popping in Reasonable Doubt after the final track.

I don’t think I was being easy on the album. I was extremely disappointed in the album when my roommate and I listned to it. After listening to ti three times int eh last week or so. Its not TERRIBLE. There aren’t any “Knowledge God” song’s on this album, but some solid tracks.

As I said int he post its the production that didn’t do it for me. And and normally a lyrics guy and if the beats are ok…I’m ok with that. But, like Tokyo said. Good songs area good song and bad is bad.

The production to me was hollow when everything on OB4CL smacked you in the face with those hard hitting drums. Plus, Rae must have been on that dust to think he could make an album without RZA and Ghost. If he didn’t want RZA on the album how does he forget Ghost.

I haven’t listened to BP3 yet. I’ve listened to OB4CLII and first listen I thought album of the year. I’m backing off of that now…cause I think its flawed in some areas, but its a dope dope dope album. And I’m not believing everything everyone has to say about BP3 because some of the criticism is probably justified, but I think at times when it comes to Jay’s music people want to find some reason to nicpick at it.

I’m copping Jay and Rae next week because I already have Tanya Morgan.

If you love hip hop you love tight lyrics and beats. Both albums have some of that. Tokyo I don’t trust RZA… “Replicator, Replicator!! lol… I’m putting my money on Mayer Hawthorne this Tues! And since I slept on Brooklynati I’m copping that too! In fact instead of everyone buying JayZ and Raekwon’s albums everyone should ban together and support Brooklynati!

Cats aint overlooking the flaws this album had. But even the RZA said in an interview that lyrically Rae killed this album. No one is claiming this joints a classic but even on an okay album good songs are good songs.

This album was so bad I threw it in the trash. Ya’ll being way to easy on it!! This is where I lost all faith in Rae. At least Ghost has carried the Wu Torch. I can’t see how people hating on Jay so much and praisin the Rae joint so high. Two extremes. People are buggin out acting like Hip Hop is back, Pt 2 is the greatest album ever!! Man hip hop has been staying good. Elzhi, Lil Brother, Murs, all the Kevn Nottingham cats!! Hey I’m not saying it’s not good but cats acting like there ain’t no good hip hop out there… smh

Yo Thomas The word extravagant in sneakers was Ghost on Criminology.

What happened to Infinite Arkatechs? They were killing it with productions in the late 90′s. They were doing mad hot shit for Terror squad too. For a minute i thought they were gonna be the new beatminerz.

Rae was at his best lyrically on this album too bad he abandoned the formula. There were mad bangers and incredible lyrics on this album though just too many blah beats.

And oh yeah Peace to Lord Superb. That dude is ILL with his. He needs to drop an album.

Yeah this album isn’t as bad as people try to make it out to be. It is a solid effort, it’s just the hype was so high, it made the flaws stand out even more.
