In 1998 Jay-Z was just hitting his stride and finally reached that commercial success I believe he was looking for. From 1997-1998 Canibus was touted as the NEXT coming emcee. Everything he touched was gold from the features to his mixtape verses. Everyone was open. That was until Can-I-Bus [download set] dropped. The album was a disappointment to many. Many blamed the production handled by Wyclef and his crew to Canibus not sticking to his mixtape roots.
We got Jay and his “swan song” “What More Can I Say” vs “How We Roll.” Both rock over the MFSB sample. Two different styles…two different era’s. Jay is laid back and Canibus is probably his most animated as any on this track from the album.
With that said…easy one for me Jay>Canibus.

Jay. Even though Canibus is good majority of the time he sounds like the results of an emcee smoking too much crack and reading a thesaurus.
i think canibus got it on this. don’t get me wrong, jay ripped it, but i think his woulda been better than it was if his had been over the clark kent version. Canibus was just hungry back then.
Clark Kent did produce this joint…Canibus song..
Big actually rapped on that sample first on a Tracy Lee joint.
Canibus all day. As a matter of fact, Can-I-Bus was an absolute classic album. When it dropped, I was highly disappointed, but I’ve found this album one of the most misunderstood and underappreciated albums to drop. I challenge everyone to go back and relisten to it and acknowledge how genius the work is. One of my favaorite albums to date. Salute!
@Bochosen
I agree with the statementcthat Canibus was/is a good album. It was the hype around the release and the out of this world expectations fir it. After 11yrs later it ages well.
Now I don’t agree Jay got Bis on this one.
CANIBUS!!!! Hands down, Are U Serious!
