As Jay-Z week rolls on we continue to revisit some of the sets we’ve completed. The Dynasty: Roc La Familia is considered a Jay-Z solo album, but it plays more like a compilation because of the numerous features from the Roc fam (Beans and Bleek). I believe this album was a way for Jay/Roc-A-Fella to showcase their two brightest stars (or at least in their opinion). Truth be told…Sigel got busy on this joint and as my man DJTommyIIGunz would said “bar for bar” Sigel gives Jay a run for his money. Talk about it!
The production is handled Just Blaze, Kanye, The Neptunes, Bink! and others.
As far as the samples, Kanye has said he “bit” the drums from Dre’s “Xxplosive.” Not sure if that means he took the drums from Dre’s song or from the Soul Mann and the Brother’s/Isaac Hayes song. I’m probably over-thinking this one? Either way we’ve included all three songs in the set. I found a sample for “Streets Is Talking,” but my ear must not be working cause I really can’t hear it. I’ve included that as well so we can debate/discuss it.
Jay week continues….hit the cut for the links.
