Here’s the day we’ve all been waiting for… the official release day of the long awaited Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II and Blueprint 3. Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 was originally supposed to be released this Friday, September 11, but got push up to today.  Since both albums leaked last week, there have been varying opinions on Blueprint 3; however, the praise for Raekwon’s new album has been pretty consistent. As far as I know, these are the only two releases in stores today. Hit the jump to let us know what you’re coppin…

What are you coppin' this week?

2 Minus - UK September 8, 2009 at 9:06 am

I’m buying both, going down to my HMV in the next hour to do so.

Support the Scene! Although to be honest, I’m looking forward to OB4CL II a little bit more, due to the reviews and leaked tracks I have heard from both albums.

It’s a good day for hip-hop though!.

3 MIKE September 8, 2009 at 9:17 am

neither one is available on the cdn itunes yet…….

4 Kevin September 8, 2009 at 9:26 am

I copped both via Amazon… probably won’t get here until the end of the week.

5 Cenzo Beatz September 8, 2009 at 9:28 am

i’ll buy ob4cl 2 for sure. the couple of leaked tracks convinced me!

6 J. Rizzle September 8, 2009 at 9:37 am

I’m coppin both..Best Buy is releasing the collector’s edition of the “Blueprint”..all 3 “Blueprint” cds for $14.99 that ain’t bad at all..I won’t be surprised if Cuban Linx II outsells BP3 .

7 Matt September 8, 2009 at 9:57 am

I’ll be heading to bestbuy later, I’m sure you all know which one I’ll be buying.

8 Thomas September 8, 2009 at 10:17 am

There you go again Matt! hahaha. I’m copping both. Grabbing 2 OB4CL2 and 2 Jay’s. Gotta get wife her own Jay joint.

I’m taking a picture of my joints and posting a link later today.

9 MDD September 8, 2009 at 10:40 am

Best Buy (Deptford NJ) didnt have any copies of the BP3 said they expected them later today or tomorrow. J.Rizzle the $14.99 version only contains BP1 and BP2 double disc and has space for the BP3, so you would have to spend another $9.99 to have all 3 BP CD’s.

10 Dr. MaD September 8, 2009 at 10:44 am

Thanx MDD 4 the info. god lookin’ out

13 Minus - UK September 8, 2009 at 11:09 am

Just got back from my HMV. Apparently Jay-Z doesn’t drop till Monday over here.

Anyway, copped OB4CL II for £9.99 what a bargain! Also got the new La Coka Nostra and Supreme Clientelle whilst I was there. Nice selection to be bumping for a while.

First listen is impressive!!!! Rae all Day.

14 eA September 8, 2009 at 11:10 am

I think BP3 is still being released on the 11th in Canada, smh.

15 Mr Cee September 8, 2009 at 11:42 am

OB4CL2 is the first album I have bought for a while, I just had to support that album and cop it. Jay-Z ill pass on, not feeling it!

16 Cinque September 8, 2009 at 11:45 am

I got class right now but im coppin both two classic hip-hop brothers at they’re finest best damn tuesday this year. Shit i might even even draw a pic of raekwon for the hell of it lol !!!

17 Isbjerg September 8, 2009 at 11:50 am

I got both and I must admit, Im more surprized over Raekwon because of the Wu feeling Im getting… The BP were on for four runs and Im not satisfied with Jays flow on many of the joint, hard to explain but I feel like he’s locked into the American Gangster/Run this town flow, but when he’s not being locked, he shines on.. On Venus vs Mars,Already Home and Hate he’s on his high….
I was hoping to get more Kid Kudi on the track, but I see a single there…

Rae is coming hard on this, and its been worth the wait… I didnt feel Lex Diamond but I did enjoy Heroin Only, and now Im more a Raekwon stan than ever..

One

18 Kevin September 8, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Interesting to see Rae over Jay, so far. And 6 for none of the above? Really?

19 Marcha September 8, 2009 at 12:40 pm

I like jay, but unfortunately this time i will not give my money to him. Raekwon deserves it. Awesome album, simple as that.

20 J. Rizzle September 8, 2009 at 12:42 pm

the 6 for the none above are the bootleggers, lol

21 MIKE September 8, 2009 at 12:52 pm

coppin both today…….anybody recommend the “lex diamond” album ? Is it worth grabbing as well ?

22 ross burrell September 8, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Just both albums at newbury comics. Both are on point, but I was really surprised at how good the Raekwon album really is. Jay Z is on his grown man shit, which is always good. Music for the grown and sexy. Kids today don’t like it because it’s above their level. 90% of today’s rappers [soldier boy slim for example] won’t be around as long as Jay Z will be. No substance.

23 Charity September 8, 2009 at 12:53 pm

BP3 is still worth the buy, even if it the album is isn’t his best and that dude is already rich.

24 bags September 8, 2009 at 12:56 pm

I know this is off topic but I love Jay’s Rhaposdy commercial doing all the album covers that ish is ridiculous.

25 Justin September 8, 2009 at 1:07 pm

bought ob4cl2

26 Tokyo Cigar September 8, 2009 at 1:24 pm

To all wu/hip hop headz. Happy Rae day. Critical acclaim on the net AND the streets. Chef has done it.

Warning HEAVY WU STAN SHIT ABOUT TO GO DOWN RIGHT NOW. ( whut up Thomas )

My thoughts on the album is like this. I’m not even gonna compare it to the first one this shit is it’s own monster.

One time on Wutangcorp this one cat spoke about how there already was a Cuban Linx sequel in 96. Reading the various reasons he stated i was like, He’s right IRONMAN is the true sequel to Cuban Linx. RZA was on deck for the whole thing ( shout out True master for the magnificent “fish” joint though ), both movies had the same characters, heavy cinematic references/movie quotes, skits and a lot of the themes on IROMAN were continuations of Cuban Linx. Ice cream is about baggin young ladies Camay is about bagging older women. Spot rusherz built up to 260. Ice water built up to Fish etc I know it’s not officially meant to be a sequel but for what fans of the original want, you cant get it better than that.

Funny enough i think this album is more of a sequel to Supreme Clientele but manages to equally match it IMO. From seeing reactions to it’s funny. Cats were mentioning the re used beats/samples and Supreme had joints that Puff ( nutmeg ), Diamond D ( buck 50 ) Deck ( stay true ) had used. It’s the Wu they do shit like that cause at the end of the day when they rap on it THEY OWN IT. Both albums were executive produced by RZA who they both brought in at the end to oversee the projects. Both had outside producers that still manged to make a cohesive sound. Ghostface bodied both albums. Raekwon bodied both albums. But CL2 to me almost takes it cause, Jada outspit Redman, CL2 is darker and meaner with a lot more ambiance ( sound effects, detailed skits that formed into songs etc ), production is more hardbody. “Ason Jones” is one of the deepest tribute tracks EVER ( having words from Dirty for the hook really makes me miss him more ) There were a couple of tracks i did’nt like ( “About me” should have been replaced by “walk with me” and “Have mercy” is a case of sick rhymes over an aight beat ) everything else. FIREWATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Supreme was shorter, more potent and had brilliant shit like Child’s play and one that insures it’s classic status till today easily but despite the few ( very few ) flaws CL2 has it matches that album beat for beat, abstract dart for abstract dart.

Chef did it big with this joint. Even my peoples that live to shit on me for being so into wu have told me that they were blown away by the album. As a die hard fan it feels great to see Rae gettin this much love for the joint.

27 Kevin September 8, 2009 at 2:30 pm

That’s some deep shit, for real, Tokyo. Do you wanna write some Wu pieces for the site?

28 Cenzo Beatz September 8, 2009 at 2:36 pm

preordered it. here in germany it’ll come out on september 11th. i can’t wait!

29 Young K September 8, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Yeah i think Rae > Jay this time around as well. I hate to say it…

30 Mike September 8, 2009 at 4:12 pm

neither… downloaded Mayer Hawthorne!! yeah yeah yeah

31 Charity September 8, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Tokyo Cigar = Wu-Stan Supreme!!

32 Tokyo Cigar September 8, 2009 at 6:15 pm

Yo Kev no doubt. Hit me with a Wu topic and i’ll cook something up for you. Yo Charity i been going in since 93. ha ha

33 iLLie September 8, 2009 at 7:48 pm

@ Tokyo cigar, i agree with you, i always considered ironman the sequel to ob4cl, def its companion in style and rhymes. Personally, a lot people think ghost murdered raekwon on ob4cl, on the flip side i think raekwon murdered ghost on ironman. But, i think ob4cl2 is more a companion piece to fishscale than supreme clientele. Def copped the new rae through amazon so haven’t gotten it. Haven’t bought a jay-z album since blueprint 2 and aint getting this one.

34 Tokyo Cigar September 8, 2009 at 8:40 pm

@iLLie No doubt. Word up you on point for noticing that Raekwon spazzed out all over Ironman. It was like he just perfected his abstract style and was running wild with it like on Faster Blade. Man, MTV was showing back to back Wu videos and had me wilding out in the crib. This feels like a classic day.

35 Thomas September 8, 2009 at 9:20 pm

Good news for Rae….the album was sold out at my local Best Buy. Bad news is it was probably under shipped. Got mine when store opened. Jay was all over the store and them joints were almost gone when I went back to store in evening to cop Mayer Hawthorne. Jay will do his numbers. Very happy thAt Rae didn’t suffer fate as SH album.

Onto the albums. Rae has the better joint. Rae is 4/5. Rae and the clan took it back to the old way they made re ords…going hard on them joints and only the hottest verses were included. Still trying to figure out what song I would take off. What’s missing are those hard as nails drums. Even RZA’s joints don’t have that knock that his production normally has. Also the multiple layered tracks aren’t evident. I was expecting that from RZA…cause that’s what he does. Now I’m being picky to 10th power. Overall, very dope album. As much as I Stan for Jay I’ve been a Wu fan. Salute the Chef. This album is for hoodies, gore-teks/timbs, and skull caps. This won’t get played in the club/radio. It shouldn’t be.

Jay’s album. I knew people were overreacting to the album. Not the best in Jay’s discography. But it’s not terrible like I was expecting based on comments. The album compared to Rae’s it’s not better. With that said it’s 3.5/5. Jay’s album is for dress jeans, hard bottoms, button up shirt with a fitted or skull cap going to the club. I can see reminder and Venus and mars having the club going crazy. V/m has so many layers/sounds to and I’m not into beats like that. Empire of the state is that ish.

Again I copped both. I’m bout to upload my pics.

If you want that Mayer Hawthorne grab it on best buy for $6.99.

Peace.

36 Victor September 8, 2009 at 9:46 pm

Jay’s album was solid, the hate was insubstantiated. Cuban Linx 2 is everything one could want in a sequel and i have to agree that it is the best Wu release since Supreme Clientele, which is something as Fishscale was a near classic imo.

Empire State of Mind and Thank You are my fav joints of BP3, that third verse on Thank You is vintage Jay. As for OB4CL2, there are a ridiculous amount of highlights, which is bananas as the LP is 24 tracks long (2 bonus tracks for us brits). On a side note, i think About Me is even better than catalina; the beats culmination is something sinister, plus Busta puts in a better performance than on his entire album.

37 Thomas September 8, 2009 at 10:21 pm

I told yall I got 2 of each. Hit the link.

38 CEELOS September 8, 2009 at 10:37 pm

“already home” alone rips rae’s album in half. What is it I’m missing.

39 CEELOS September 8, 2009 at 10:42 pm

Rae and jay dont shoot at the same baskets plain and simple.

40 Thomas September 9, 2009 at 12:49 am

“Have Mercy” from Rae’s joint is tough as nails.

That “Venus vs. Mars” is pretty good.

41 Matt September 9, 2009 at 2:56 am

Picked up that new CL2 joint earlier, finally going to listen to it before I sleep. I’m basically going to sit in my chair and take it in. I’ve read magnificent things about it so I’m pretty hyped. (even Thomas admitted that CL2>BP3, so it must be true)

42 Thomas September 9, 2009 at 8:02 am

@Matt I can recongize good music. I think I have great taste. Comparing the two (only because they were released on same day) even though they are on opposite ends of the spectrum Rae has the better album. But, by no means is Jay’s album a ish sandwich like every other comment I read made it out to be. Jay said it (can’t remember what song) “we don’t shoot on the same basket.” Jay is not struggling to make ends meet. He doesn’t struggle anymore. Doesn’t have that struggle in his voice. Rae is still struggling so to speak and that reflects in his music. Jay is in a different lane and talking what he know. But, Jay’s album is on some grown folks ish.

I dig both.

And anyway…why you so surprised? hahaha

43 BobbyJames September 9, 2009 at 8:58 am

BP3 = 7/10
OB4CL2 = 8,5/10

my first score after the 1st week listenin 2 them

44 BobbyJames September 9, 2009 at 8:59 am

word victor !

45 Charity September 9, 2009 at 11:38 am

@Thomas, I disagree re: Jay’s voice/struggle. I really like his flow on BP3 because he sounds so damn hungry — like when he’s on that “You know I got it down, dog / I’m Al Roker: I used to knock pounds off / it ain’t nothing for me to knock nouns off.” The production of the album is very experimental, sure, but a lot of his flow on this album seems experimental as well.
