M.O.P. Producer Jacks Beat for New M.O.P. Album

M.O.P.

I know we’ve had the topic of underground (or unknown) producers getting fucked over by bigger names in the industry, but I just got an email tonight that’s got me heated. I’m gonna let my man, Kil, explain the situation as he told it to me:

Back in September 2008, MOP, Joe Budden, Termanology and Big Shugg came down to Sonar in B’more and me and my peeps go to the show. I pass out beat cd’s to Term, Joe and during MOP’s show I give it to Laze E Laze’s son (some young nigga) who’s the hype man. Now, fast forward to September 2009 and I’m listening to MOP’s Foundation album on my way home from work and when track #9 “Rude Bastard” comes on….it’s MY FUCKING BEAT! Not the same sample, the SAME BEAT! Drum programming, sample, chops…the whole damn beat! Then my man Mills does the knowledge for me to see who got credit for the track on the album and it says “produced by Fizzy Womack”! So…I don’t get a check, I don’t get credit…I don’t even get co production credit! And I’m not looking for no “feel sorry for me” or none of that hoopla…I’m just asking for cats to let ANYONE who ya’ll know who loves hip hop to know who did the track so I can @ least get credit from my peers (hip hop fans and other producer’s grinding out there) for the beat. I’ve been grinding @ this beat thing for YEARS and for my first placement for a major artist to be a jack move…it just ain’t right…but it is what it is…like I said, do me this justice and @ least let the hip hop heads ya’ll know that the bol Kil from Philly gave MOP THAT heat… not no fucking Fizzy Womack…

I listened to Kil’s beat and compared it to the original and it seems like a legitimate claim. It is the same exact beat to the tee, with the exception of a piano overlay here and there.

Hit the jump for the proof and you be the judge…

Edit: Turns out Fizzy Womack IS Lil Fame (excuse my ignorance). So the title should actually read, “Lil Fame Jacks Beat for New M.O.P. Album.”

Kil’s Beat, titled “It’s Hurting Me”

Well Fizzy Womack IS Lil’ Fame so if this guy claims this is his beat, he’s also saying that Fame just straight up jacked the beat & credited it to himself. I’m not saying I don’t believe him but I’m just careful about jumping on someone before all the facts are out there.

2 One Mic September 10, 2009 at 9:17 pm

Damn Kil, I feel bad for you, son! That’s a straight jack! At least you know that MOP thought that the beat was hot enough for a major release. Hang in there though – good things might come from it.

One

3 DJ Multiple Sex Partners September 10, 2009 at 9:25 pm

Damn, so is that how he produced that last Wu album, too?

4 DoNotFire September 10, 2009 at 9:26 pm

Damn Fame, that was a bitch move. Give dude his cheque! In fact, you know what? If that was me, I would just want the credit really. I’ll get the paper from what comes after.

5 Cyclops September 10, 2009 at 9:29 pm

That’s fucked up. I hate when shit like this happens.

6 drew j September 10, 2009 at 9:31 pm

It might not even be Lil’ Fame’s fault. I doubt that he was the one who wrote the credits. Those cats probably don’t know anything about this. Some cat probably played the beat CD while they was in the studio and they jumped on it simply because it was a hot track. As much as these dudes have struggled themselves I don’t think that they’d do something like that. I’d blame management or or an A&R first, but I make beats myself and good placements are hard to come by so I feel your pain dude.

7 DoNotFire September 10, 2009 at 9:31 pm

Oh shit I just noticed – Fame even jacked the adlib at the beginning. He ain’t gettin out of this one.

8 Sean Deez September 10, 2009 at 9:43 pm

goddamn fame…. geez

9 Sean Deez September 10, 2009 at 9:44 pm

the beat is straight heat though brother..

send in some stuff, we’ll get it around.. i hate this crap

10 Duble September 10, 2009 at 9:49 pm

It’s funny, cuz that’s one of the dopest tracks on the album!! Hopefully fizzy didn’t bite that joint, cuz I really like MOP, and that would make me question all of the previous tracks that fame produced.

11 Sean Deez September 10, 2009 at 9:53 pm

yeah well.. Duble, I read in “Rakim Told Me”, well, the sequel book to it… the production credits that say “Produced by MOP”, Fizzy takes credit for it. Even though Danze tries to chip in and say he helped produced it, Fame came right in and said other wise

this is weird

12 knowjuander September 10, 2009 at 10:15 pm

wow… rude bastards… could’ve at least gave a nigga shout out in the song or something…

13 magnumXLuser September 10, 2009 at 10:25 pm

take this from a producer dont pass out beat cds. i know its a easy way to get your shit out there but its a easy way for somebody to jack a beat. if u do have beat cds just keep them short, tag them or even have some lame rapper on it and say its a reference. just my 2 cents

14 Danimal September 10, 2009 at 10:28 pm

they really are some rude bastards for that move lol .. beat is def CRACK tho .. that sucks tho foreal, these are major artist that jacked teh beat too ?? wtf yall killed CH for jacking a beat and he did that ish when he didnt have a deal for a mixtape that was just for his peoples…this is a whole different level of theft ..they gotta get called out on this and at least shout dude out .. or pay for a different beat from him at least….

15 Kil September 10, 2009 at 10:36 pm

Good looking for the love people…the hard part is getting jacked from a group you LOVE! I’ve supported these dudes since ‘93 but hey ain’t their biggest hit about robbing people? Lol…About hearing more music…I can’t front…I’m still on my Flintstones jawn…I have no myspace, facebook, etc. but I realize (especially now) I gotta get on my grizzly so I’m getting all that stuff in order now…good look again for the love…

16 skeme September 10, 2009 at 10:38 pm

that beat is sick..THE PROBLEMATICS feat. MASTA ACE “hurting” killed that same sample

17 SSPSoundz September 10, 2009 at 10:38 pm

Someone hit Fame up on twitter … lets get this situated for reals. I hope you got your ish copyrighted homie …

18 skeme September 10, 2009 at 10:41 pm

*PROBLEMADDICTS..my bad

19 Kevin September 10, 2009 at 10:42 pm

I listened to the MOP album today, and this beat is actually the best on the album, IMHO. I didn’t know that Lil Fame IS Fizzy Womack.. good look on that Justin. If that’s the case, he IS to blame. Trying to get a comment from him. Let’s hope he checks his Twtter.

BTW, I told Kil that he needs to put drops in his beats if he’s gonna give out beat CDs. He told me something interesting… apparently Kil meet 9th Wonder once and gave him his beat CD and 9th hit him back and said, “I was feeling your jawns but the drops were all over the beat…I could barely hear the beats.”

I guess, leave the drops, but don’t make em overpowering. But we gonna get this cat the credit he deserves.

20 Kevin September 10, 2009 at 10:48 pm

I just hit Fame up… we’ll see if he responds. I got a lawyer looking into it too.

21 philpot September 10, 2009 at 10:49 pm

why are cats coppin pleas for Fame/MOP when they went IN on Charles Hamilton? sounds to me like cats scared to call out some Thugs for biting but since C. Ham “soft” they didn’t mind goin in on him…pitiful…btw, i also used the same sample for a beat i did in 2007 and flipped the sample (drums were much more basic) very similar to Kil

22 magnumXLuser September 10, 2009 at 10:51 pm

this blog post from skillz is one of my favorites about using beats from producers in this case it was kanye west.

http://therapup.uproxx.com/2008/11/skillz-blogs-about-kanye.html

23 Kil September 10, 2009 at 10:53 pm

I think the worst part for me is I’m a HUGE MOP fan…I’ve brought (not stolen, or downloaded) every album of there’s…I ALWAYS big them up so it’s like damn a group you love and respects rapes you…but then 10% of me is like “I made it” I got placement on a major artist’s cd…then it hits me that these niggaz ain’t giving me no credit! Not to mention my beats has breakdowns and a chorus…plus i wanted to calaborate with the artist who used this beat because I actually made this track after hearing my man anwar talking to the kids @ our job about being shot and how that shit ain’t cool….that’s why the sample is saying “it’s hurting me” and why I got P on the chorus saying “when the slugs penetrate you feel a burning sensation”…so I really wanted an artist to drop some jewels over the track to get the REAL feeling of the track but good ole MOP fucked that one up…So that’s when it hit me…with the beautiful world wide web I’m putting these niggas on FULL BLAST!

24 nutsackz September 10, 2009 at 11:02 pm

Get that lawyer.and next time tag ur beats with a drop or somethin

25 Austin Tacious September 10, 2009 at 11:05 pm

damn this beat is dope. this sucks that it got jacked. yea there not even using this as a inspiration or a story telling type track. someone like common would have ripped this track

26 Mike September 10, 2009 at 11:21 pm

didn’t MOP just recently sue WWE for the sample in Cena’s intro music… hmmmm

27 smog September 10, 2009 at 11:32 pm

beat is sick

28 jscrilla September 10, 2009 at 11:39 pm

yo i feel u man… im jus gonna say this.. i highly doubt it was MOP fault. they prolly aint kno where half the tracks came from. it was prolly someone handling their business. i have been jacked – i had uncredited beats on heltah skeltah (initially, they fixed tho,) tragedy khadafi (straight death from thug matrix wasnt even mixed,) and freeky zeeky (street runner got credit) albums so i been there. i know for a fact heltah skeltah and tragedy albums werent the artists fault. freaky zeeky joint i kinda didnt care. lol.

good luck . the worst thing “they” can do is steal a production credit cuz thats worth more than the G they was prolly coughin up for the beat

29 storm September 10, 2009 at 11:55 pm

beat is wack, who cares who stole it.

30 Kil September 10, 2009 at 11:55 pm

Good looking fam and I hear you…my thing is if it said Produced by Bobby Brown or produced by whoever…I wouldn’t be thinking MOP did me dirty…but Fame took the credit! So even if that happened and a 3rd party gave Fame the beat like they did…Fame jacked them…so I got beat jacked twice!

31 Thomas September 11, 2009 at 12:07 am

interesting.

32 Justin September 11, 2009 at 12:10 am

That’s the key difference here. Fizzy Womack is Fame so he’d be taking credit for this beat.

Now I think it is VERY possible that this may be a wrong production credit because apparently there was something already wrong with the label’s production of the album. They may have credited the wrong song but either way, the “right” person still jacked the beat.

33 Dr. MaD September 11, 2009 at 12:39 am

well I’m not buyin’ this fucking album then :D GODDDAMN that’s special

34 DJ SoulClap September 11, 2009 at 1:26 am

I can imagine how you feel. But that’s how it goes sometimes…

35 DJ SoulClap September 11, 2009 at 1:41 am

“They say I’m a rude bastard, I took the beat by Kil and I made it my own.”
Yes you are!

36 Marti Mar September 11, 2009 at 1:58 am

Damn…. I was lookin foward to gettin the album… not supporting bullshit tho. A damn shame, The track is nice and I’m a M.O.P. fan too… Sad how cats in the majors feel they can dick an up-and-comer over… even if it’s not their fault (ref. jscrilla) they should be professional enough to check that, or have whose gatherin the beats, scrub’em first before they go in over on’em…

37 big family September 11, 2009 at 3:00 am

At least you get jacked by rappers. My tracks only end up on crappy reality shows.

38 Sean Deez September 11, 2009 at 10:02 am

LOL
like what?!!

that’s a huge pay check if that comes through man.. bigger than any rapper copping it. Specially if it’s syndicated like the old Survivors or Real World’s

39 Anon. September 11, 2009 at 10:47 am

40 malmoe September 11, 2009 at 10:51 am

Yo Kevin we’ve had some words (not too bad) in the past over comments I wrote that were taken the wrong way and i’m pretty sure we’re over that by now since it was a while ago. Since then i’ve continued to post my opinions in here because I feel this site and love what y’all do regardless if I feel certain artists or not and vice versa. My point in writing this to you is just to say that I still love this site and will continue to come here, BUT………

This is the realest thing I’ve seen y’all do since I’ve been here. To try and help this dude get his credit for what he say’s he’s done is beautiful. I’m a fellow beat maker/producer and I’ve actually had that happen to me and I know it’s happened to coulntless others. For yall to use your powers and try to get to the bottom of this speaks volumes to me. This whole thing could be a mistake on the people that write up the credits or it could be a jack move. My question is why didn’t they get in touch with homie to let him know they was using his beat. I was at that show a year ago with my man Singapore Kane (it was a decent show-not a full house though) and got to chill with them dudes, so it’s weird hearing about a year later and seeing that Fizzy may have jacked a beat from a producer/fan. Its wrong and I hope y’all get a positve response out of it cuz it actually is one (if not the best) of the best beats on the whole album. LOVE Y’ALL EVEN MORE FOR THIS.

41 Sean Deez September 11, 2009 at 11:04 am

What really gets me is the Pain In Da Ass adlib at the beginning

c’mon..

at least they took out the P drops..

42 Kevin September 11, 2009 at 11:06 am

Malmoe, this means a lot coming from you… Maybe you and I actually CAN get along! lol

But yeah, this is the whole reason I do this site is for the little guy… the unknown producer that doesn’t have a big enough voice to get heard. My whole goal in posting this was to bring attention to the matter and get this cat the credit he deserves. I know we’ve been blasted in the past for jumping the gun and not getting all of our facts straight, but we got enough proof on this one to blow it wide open. I’m gonna do everything in MY power to get some kind of result… I somehow feel a responsibility.

43 confidence September 11, 2009 at 11:19 am

wow, what a straight jack move that is. right down to the snare and everything. i feel for you brother, hopefully you get some resolution on this and somebody steps forward…peace

44 Rob September 11, 2009 at 11:29 am

He should really do something about this.
I remember this happening to the guy that produced the “I Get Money” beat for Fiddy.
His myspace fans basically let 50 know who actually made the beat.

45 Danimal September 11, 2009 at 11:30 am

yeah philpot lol thats what i said why didnt the roast Charles hamilton .. and CH stole a beat before he got signed for a mixtape he was doign for himself.. it just so happens his own a label now and they released it .. ..its still wrong to jack a beat but if i take a beat and spit on it for a mixtape for my peeps on the block thats different MOP actually put it on an album that there selling and tahts way worse…yall better slay them like u did CH hahaha

46 Danimal September 11, 2009 at 11:32 am

why did*** they roast cH

47 JustinTime September 11, 2009 at 12:32 pm

Yo I was actually at the same show. It wasnt a huge crowd so the people who were there was extremly close to the stage and it was a lotta interaction. I even remember the young hype dude. He was passing drinks around to everyone in the crowd and has a missing tooth. Billy Danze signed my ipod after the show on the stage.
Funniest thing that night was that when they performed “U Dont Know” remix instead of saying, “Mr. S. Carter…they screamed “Fuck S. Carter”..the crowd was like ohhhhhhh????

48 Sean Deez September 11, 2009 at 1:16 pm

yeah, after the whole Roc A Fella crap that put them on hiatus, i dont think they were too happy with that

49 otis b driftwood September 12, 2009 at 9:22 am

48 comments and not one from mop defending themselves. Rude Bastards!!!

50 Thomas September 12, 2009 at 9:31 am

They have also said in interviews that they were on G-Unit and the Roc at the wrong times….when things were going bad.

51 james September 12, 2009 at 10:05 am

@otis b driftwood, Lil Fame himself apparently reacted on DJPremierBlog… Use google

52 Thomas September 12, 2009 at 10:27 am

I just posted Fame’s reaction.

53 VORHEEZ OF THE PROBLEMADDICTS September 12, 2009 at 3:02 pm

WE USED THAT VOCAL SAMPLE IN 2006 IN A TRACK WITH MASTA ACE FROM OUR FIRST ALBUM, THE FIRST STEP…
LEARN ABOUT IT!!!

54 M.Binnie September 13, 2009 at 2:54 pm

i cant believe when i heard about this
completely re-created this guys beat, i mean down to the fucking drum programming, samples, basically everything that the man put work into making
if your a producer yourself, how in the fuck could you do this to another producer?
this shit does not make any sense
completely disrespectful, as a producer myself this really irratates me
fuckin bullshit move by Lil Fame, hes going to annoy a lot of people with this

55 Sean Deez September 13, 2009 at 3:32 pm
56 DJ Mills September 14, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Looks like the whole thing gonna end up as a good look to my homey Kil and he deserves it. Dude been grinding for years so he really had NO CHOICE but to take it there to get what was due him.

Shoutout to Kevin. When I saw the way you gave my homey Mickey Free a good look couple weeks back I told Kil if anybody was gonna give the little guy a voice it would be you(peep how certain sites never picked up the story) so without your help the word would have never gotten out so quick.

57 DJ BIG TEXAS September 14, 2009 at 7:47 pm

WOW THATS CRAZY!! ALL I CAN SAY IS”COME ON SON”!!!!!! (ED LOVER TONE)
THE BEAT IS BANGIN’ SUPREMELY HARD.,I PLAY THIS TRACK ALMOST EVERYDAY,.,SEND ME THE INSTRUMENTAL.,TO DJBIGTEXAS@GMAIL.COM.,.TO THE REAL KAT THAT DONE THIS BEAT.,IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY,.,GET YOUR COPYRIGHTS.,.,.CUZ A N@#$A WILL JACK ,.STRAIGHT UP.,.

58 M.Binnie September 14, 2009 at 10:07 pm

Sean Deez
i realize that
i posted that before i knew anymore about the situation, and the same day Lil Fame’s real respone came out, so dont say its since been resolved like it has been resolved for a while
was annoyed just as everyone else who initially heard it was, thats alll
peace

59 Deez September 14, 2009 at 10:30 pm

I wasn’t trying to do it to be a douche, I was doing it to be administrative lol

60 ross September 15, 2009 at 9:23 am

GIVE THA KID HIS CREDIT …….I FUGGIN HATE BITERS !!!

61 C-Villain September 16, 2009 at 1:41 am

sucks he took tha beat but damn that beat is fire cant blame him for a good ear. lol

62 k-heff September 21, 2009 at 11:16 pm

so like…the beat is not that good [ no diss ] ( just a regular 2000’s very basic sample beat ) but the thing with not crediting the dude who produced it…..thats horrible.i cant even put myself in the dudes place i would be so mad…thats so Wrong! …Stealing !

63 Deez September 21, 2009 at 11:28 pm

K heff, obviously you are in the minority… a quick survey could probably show that 90% of the people who’ve listened to this album/song would say this is a standout beat.

64 k-heff September 21, 2009 at 11:49 pm

okay DEEZ so youre a little blog rider who likes bad music ! so what? its full of untalented producers / musicians out there :) its no surprise :) Let me tell you something. I didnt wanna say this cause it might sound like hating but listen…really 1. Weak Kicks & Snares,2. NO BASS line , 3.No Mastering 4. Really Basic Sampling (Cover) / no manipulation . 5.I could go on all day…
oh and btw…i dont care what these dudes here think about music production cause when i was studying Greats like Fela kuti , Coltrane , Green & Others most of you didnt knew what hip hop was…allright? have a nice day

65 Sean Deez September 22, 2009 at 12:07 am

lol, that’s hilarious…

66 Charity September 22, 2009 at 10:18 am

Fuck that.

Deez for president.
