I wanted to share this with my fellow hip-hop headz here in the DMV area I attended last night and had hella fun and the panel discussions were very informative as well as passionate..this shows that the Hip-Hop is very much alive and it continues to grow each and every day..so if you live in the DMV area, please check out this festival.
Words Beats & Life, Inc. (WBL) and the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Bootleg Festival, which will consist of workshops, film screenings, panel discussions, performances and a traveling art installation: History of the Mixtape. Along the U Street Corridor from September 16-19, 2009, we hope to offer DC residents an opportunity to experience something not often seen in commercial media: hip-hop’s underground economy. This festival is designed to shine light on contradictions in hip-hop and its contributions to the larger dialogue about popular culture, globalization and its reflection and resistance of both. This year, we’re focusing on explaining how to produce, distribute and profit from the creation of media. This includes exploring hip-hop’s relationship to intellectual property, copyright, trademarks and bootlegging.
