Introducing… E Reece

by Kevin on September 30, 2009 · 2 comments

While I was out in Cali a few months ago, I had the opportunity to meet this cat by the name of E Reece. The hard penetrating, self-reflective vocals of this MC poignantly illustrate that true school hip hop is alive and well. Born in the Midwest, raised in Maryland, and schooled in the business in NYC, E Reece is unlike any artist you have ever heard or seen. This talented and hard-working lyricist, songwriter, poet, and musician keeps your attention at every turn and will make you challenge yourself. His music speaks of love, life, and staying true to yourself.

His latest album, L.I.S.n 2 This Live.In.Studio, with his live band Core Elements is everything jazz hip hop fans are craving. Hit the cut to get to know E Reece and check a preview of the album…

ereece4Where You Reppin:

I’m from Mayland, but been in LA since ‘01. I rep both!

Introduce Yourself:

Hello. My name is E Reece. Nice to meet you!

Current projects we should be looking out for:

My LP with my live band Core Elements entitled “L.I.S.n 2 This Live.In.Studio.”

Previous work that we should know about:

My last solo LP was released in ‘07 entitled “A New Breed” received critical acclaim from magazines like The Source to on-line blogs like Okayplayer.com.

Main musical inspirations:

Outside of hip hop, would be Prince and Michael Jackson (RIP). Since jazz is my first love, I would have to mention Gerry Mulligan. And in hip hop, true MCs like KRS-One, Rakim and Special Ed.

ereec1If you had to pick one song that defines your career to date, what song would that be?

I would have to say one of my songs entitled “Keepin It Movin.” [listen below]  Its about staying positive in all aspects of your life, ignoring all negative and staying true to who you are.

Why should the readers and fans give you a shot and listen to your music from here on out?

Man because I speak from my heart and give you music that will nourish you and feed your mind, body and soul with out the additives and preservatives. That’s why I call my music “organic hip hop.” Plus I can spit!

What’s next for you?

ereece2Continuing to write and record and collab with other like minded artists. Planning on dropping my next solo LP sometime late fall ‘09. It’s tentatively titled “Concrete Steppin.”

If you could only take one record on a deserted island with you, what album would that be?

Damn that’s a tough question, but I’d have to say A Tribe Called Quest’s “The Low End Theory” album. Its flawless!

Any shout outs or last words?

Shout out to Kevin for taking the time out to listen to my material. And big ups to Kareem at Man Up Management for the introduction and to everyone whose bought my albums or come to a live show. Thanks for the support and stay tuned! More to come as I continue to continue. Peace!

Yo, I saw E Reece perform at UCLA. Dope! It’s good to see that it’s not just the roots who appreciate live instrumentation. Check this guy out y’all
