Why the fuck are rappers soo concerned about reaching the “youth”. The youth dont buy shit, you loyal fans that has been with you through the years are going to buy your shit. The youth may listen once and burn your shit and in todays market no one buys your music unless you are a faithfull follower and most older rappers dont gain new fans( or very few) so way cater your music to people who aint even going to support your shit. Also why the hell does Ra have a track with Maino again??????

funny enough, if you appeal to your traditional and loyal fan base, that’s when you might reach “the youth” more. Considering that the formula that made you so successful and respectable in the first place will be talked about.. trickling down to the mass youth, who will in turn, give a damn.

The “youth” aren’t checking for Rakim. As much as I’d like em to, but they aren’t.

In another life Rakim was a mob boss i swear. This man can do no wrong in my eyes. I was mad when I saw him perform a cpl years back and a large group of youngstas was booin’ him. They shoulda been tarred and feathered for that.

I lost a lot of respect for Rakim when I saw him perform live at Rock The Bells.. it was a huge shot to the gut. He was half assed, didn’t care, late, and was whatever.
It’s not like Ra has helped his own cause though, Drizz..

It’s not like he’s put out classic material in a while. In a long while, let alone be active.

I respect Ra for his contribution to hip-hop. I will probably cop his CD on general principle. As a 45 yr old who should be done with hip-hop I still like the artform and will contiune to support real artists. I for one know that Ra’s disc aint gonna move major numbers but I hope it’s at least worth multiple spins in my deck.

I’ll always be a fan of Rakim for sure no matter what. I mean MF DOOM doesn’t show up to his shows or just cancels his appearances completely and he’s adored. LOL… go figure. KRS One forgets his own lyrics as well as Del alotta times I’ve seen these guys perform and both of them have been mad late for their shows as well, but the cats still love ‘em. I think maybe cuz Ra is real nonchalant about his approach to hip-hop it bugs folks.

all im hoping for is that he has good production. if he pulls a nas and has a bunch of clowns (and CHRIS WEBBER) make terrible beats for him, that would be a real disappointment.

I haven’t listened to the snippets, but I’ve like the two songs I have heard (Holy Are You and the joint with Maino). What’s the problem with him working with Maino? Not understanding that.

One of my favorite rappers is terrible live (Nas) that’s why I enjoy his CD’s and not the live shows. Oh…yeah forgot about DOOM and his “shows.”

As long as the beats are complimentary to the lyrics I’m cool. I’m a lyrics guy first so I don’t need 16 “Follow the Leaders” to enjoy the album. I think many put too much emphasis on beats. What the person is saying still matters….at least to me. I like a bangin beat but…..yeah.
