When you first think of the DMV (DC, MD & VA for those that don’t know), you probably think about Wale, go-go music or the ex-mayor Marion Barry. The DMV is more than that, we have the world’s best kept secret that is about to blow up on the national spotlight. Today we want to introduce you to RAtheMC. As an emcee, singer and songwriter RAtheMC has a talent that is rare. There are not many that can do all three, let alone do one. Enough talking, now it’s time for you to get to know RAtheMC.

ra2Where you reppin’?

I was raised in Northeast DC & Largo MD……..repping the DMV.

Introduce yourself:

I’m RAtheMC. I’m a rapper who can also hold a tune. I make hip-hop music w/ a variety of influences & I LOVE fashion.

Current projects we should be looking out for:

My latest mixtape Trending Topics!! [download] brought to you by DJbooth.net, Judah & Mick Boogie’s “Press Play Show”

Previous work we should know about:

I released 4 mixtapes prior to Trending Topics……..The Resume 2007, A Mixtape About Something… I Think 2008, A Trip To Neptune 2008, & Are You Not Entertained 2009. Aside from my own projects I’ve collaborated with a lot of dope artist like Fresh Daily, Theophilus London, Jesse Boykins III, Skillz, Skyzoo, Balance, Donny Goines, Pro’verb, XO etc…

ra1Musical Inspirations:

Too many to name but my biggest hip-hop influences are Biggie, The Fugees, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z and Outkast

When was the 1st time you fell in love with hip-hop?

I’m not sure exactly. Somewhere around the early Naughty By Nature days though lol. They were the first rap group I was really into.

How do you feel about the state of the female MC in today’s rap game and btw who is your all time favorite female MC?

Lauryn is my all time favorite hands down! lol……..As for the state of the female MC? There is no female voice in rap music right now. There’s a female presence, but no voice. It’s upsetting but I just use the void as motivation. People miss the female MC, so I know things will change soon.

ra3If you had to pick one song that defines your career to date, what song would that be?

Kanye West – Stronger

Why should the readers and fans give you a shot and listen to your music?

I would say my music is pretty refreshing. Dope beats and clever but honest lyrics. I think most people enjoy listening to music they can connect with and apply to their everyday life, and that’s the kind of music I’d like to think I make. You be the judge though!:)

If you could take one record on a deserted island with you, what album would that be?

Michael Jackson “Off The Wall”

Any shout outs or last words?

Strange Music whatddup! and thanks for havin me KevinNottingham.com!
