Sha Stimuli: The Secret [Mixtape]

Before Sha Stimuli [read interview] dropped his dope debut album he flooded the internet with a mixtape recently every month from December 2008 to January 2009 (I think). We posted several tracks in anticipation of his album, My Soul to Keep a few weeks back and this mixtape was requested. This was the fourth installment in the series, Sha and DJ Victorious released.

i was really pumped for his new album, but was really disappointed. my soul to keep was pretty awful. what is he doing singing?

beats! beats! beats! it sounds a mess. really unorganized, all over the place. i like him as a emcee, but he is trying to do a singing/rapping thing that does not work. and the beat “have you seen her?” it’s ridiculous! come on cookin’ soul, my little sister could make that beat. it is like the equivalent of sampling earth wind and fire’s “september”, or al green’s “im so in love with you.” imma give it a few more listens, maybe it will grow on me.

The beats aren’t top notch however they aren’t ish to me. Lyrics have to play a part in the equation someplace. I know people are either turned on by a song first by the beat then the lryics…..but content has to mean something right? Now you don’t like “Have You Seen Him?”…or the hook, but what about the message in the song? The song is talking about absent fathers or him questioning GOD on “Blasphemy” or the ill story on “Good Day.”

Not trying to change your opinion of the album, but I think people are dismissing albums just off of the beats and not the content.

My Soul to Keep is one of my favorite albums dropped this year. The beats match Sha perfectly. Someone tries something different and innovating and all y’all can do is hate. maybe you should listen to “follow the leader” again.

i know what you mean about the beats, some of them were pretty weak
but some were mad dopee
you hear the story he tells on Good Day
shas mad dope and its a dope album just some of the production could of been better

his album was great imo

the way the beat changed up halfway during the songs was jus bonus cuts

I bought the album but after listening to Good Day, I’d buy it again for that song alone-there was only a track or 2 that dont really get replay value but other than that
