C.B. News reps the Bay but isn’t in the hot spots of San Francisco or Oakland. The Fairfield native is looking to put his city on the map. Inspired by the likes of Wu-Tang & Rakim to Bay Area legend C-Bo, C.B. has learn his lessons from the greats. C.B. dropped his debut solo album [available for free] and turned heads with the guests & producers involved. With elite talent like Supastition, Skyzoo and Fashawn as well as top producers like Khrysis, Keelay & Zaire, and Cookin Soul behind him, C.B. is poised for nothing but big things. Check out our interview with C.B. to get to know the talented emcee.

Where You Reppin?

Fairfield, Ca. It’s a city that’s in the middle of Sacramento and San Francisco. It’s in the Bay Area but not as known as cities like Oakland or San Jose but that will change very soon.

Introduce Yourself:

The name is C.B. News, one of the new mc’s from the west coast thats going to be a problem in this industry

Current projects readers should be looking out for:

Right now its all about my album “Soul Searching”. I put a lot of time into this project and it shows with the content of the music, beat selection and collaborations. You can find the album on this site of course, and all over the internet world.

Past projects readers should know about:

“I am hip-hop”. It was a mixtape that i did in 2007, that started everything for me. I was in some local groups around the city and this project was my first solo project. You can grab the mixtape right here

Who are your musical inspirations?

First and foremost my biggest inspiration is the Wu-tang Clan, they made me want to start rhyming and influence me the most till this day. After that, emcees like Nas, Tupac, Jay-z, Big Pun, Common, Black Thought and Lupe Fiasco play a major part in my music that i bring to the table. On some different stuff, bands like Coldplay, Radiohead and Nirvana also influence how and what I write about in my songs.

Why did you decide to release your album Soul Searching for free?

I figured that I wanted the people to enter my world for the first time without paying. Right now, it’s not about the money. It’s about trying to build a core audience and fanbase. The money will come with patience and dedication. Right now its all about the music and building that buzz and giving the people music they can relate to.

You linked up with some big names on this project from emcees like Supastition/Kam Moye, Fashawn & Skyzoo to producers like Khrysis, Illmind & Cookin Soul. How did these collaborations come together?

If I had to say one thing to up and coming mcs, use the internet to the fullest that you can. I just got a hold of emails of emcess and producers that I respected on this music tip and reached out to them. I came at them professionally and told them my vision and they were down. The Kam Moye collabo happened because I seen him spazz on the wake up show and I hit up my folks Keelay from the production duo Keelay & Zaire who works with him and he hooked that up for me. Kam is good dude and he laced the track proper.

What do you have planned for the rest of 09 and 2010?

Big things is all I can keep on pushing for. I’m going to shoot some videos from the album and keep feeding the net with exclusives and freestyles. I’m already in talks with some major producers for my next project in 2010 and I can’t wait to deliver that to the people. Other than that, more networking with heavy hitters and giving the people that good music and build the C.B. News brand.

If you had to pick one song that defined your career up to this point, what would it be?

“Walk With Me”, off the new album [listen below]. It’s just a song that deals with everyday life and that lets the people see how I’m living and how i see things. Kam Moye and my boy Uptown painted a perfect picture of daily living that I feel just isn’t represented in music that much today

If you were stranded on an island and could only have on album to listen to, what would it be?

Aww man, that’s a tough one. Being the big Wu fan that I am, it wouldn’t be right if I left “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” out of my answer. Everything with that album is crazy. I think it’s the best collection of RZA beats on any Wu album. So yeah, I gotta go with the original purple tape

Any shout outs or last words?

Big shout out to KevinNottingham.com for supporting my music and also for giving me the platform to display music to a bigger audience. I have to give much love to everybody on my album and Shake from 2dopeboyz for hooking me up with that artwork. My city of Fairfield and the whole Bay Area for continuing to hold me down. This is just the beginning of great things to come from me, thank you to the people that’s been there from the start. Peace and blessings.
