Attention Deficit: Original Samples

Olubowale Akintimehin Folarin aka Wale dropped his solid debut album Attention Deficit this past Tuesday (11/10). The feedback on the internet has been mostly positive from what I’ve seen with some disappointed fans here and there. This post isn’t about the review of the album (read review), but the samples.

The set is more than likely incomplete as all of these samples come from the linear notes and we know complete sample listing are rarely indicated in linear notes.  The sample plays good together from the classic Kool and the Gang jam “Summer Madness” to often used Spinners track from The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh soundtrack.

As always if we missed something hit the comments with the missing information.  Everything after the cut.

UPDATE: Added additional songs and fixed some tags.

So “Pretty Girls” interpolates both The Moments and BYB? Not mad at that.

Thomas I thought you were from the DMV….you never heard this?

@Derwin

I am from the area, but I’m not a die hard Go-Go fan (stopped really listening in 93′) and I don’t listen to the radio except in the morning for the morning shows…so I’m behind somewhat.

This is a good look and post Thomas !!!

Best Kept Secret pretty much jacked Dr. Dre’s “Shit Popped Off” to make “Mama Told Me”…Although the origin is Kool & The Gang’s live version of Summer Madness, Dre actually chopped it up and redid it live to make the beat for “Shit Popped Off” which led to a few artist like Rick Ross and Amerie to use take it and use it before the Detox could…

17 juiceboxjackson November 22, 2009 at 1:25 am

@Reminiss….that’s the kind of bulls**t that will guarantee that Detox never sees the light of day…

18 Reminiss November 22, 2009 at 2:25 am

@juiceboxjackson….Yeah, you’re right…That song would have been dope on Detox but since people are taking it already, he has no point in using it cause then it’s just gonna sound recycled and Dre doesn’t do that, he’s the originator type and wouldn’t release it now seeing as people have used it…He even used it for the Dr. Pepper commercial FIRST!

After listening to the “Diary (Acoustic Version),” the Original “Diary” and the three different tracks of “La Valse d’Amélie.” The Correct version used for the album IMO is the Orchestra version and not the Piano version as I have in the set. I’ll reup this one.

20 Thomas November 27, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Set reupped with fixed tags and additional songs. Props to all for the new information.

21 Jamie November 29, 2009 at 6:31 am

Yo is there anyway you could re-up this on some other site?

Been looking for that Spinners tune for so long.

22 Thomas November 29, 2009 at 9:47 am
