So this is a hard one, on one hand we have a reasonable up and coming MC called Emilio Rojas. On the other hand we have a guy like Green Lantern helping produce the album and no Im not calling him a DJ, I reserve that qualification for ACTUAL DJ’s. So after looking past Green Lanterns attempt at a couple of beats we come up with a mish mash of some of the worst production I’ve ever heard from M Phazes, at one point i thought Nitti was on the beats for Bold & Arrogant. On multiple occasions i actually heard Drakes exact wordplay and flow come through the speakers and realized Drake may just have created a new sub-genre of rappers. Anyways Im thoroughly unimpressed with this mixtape and hope to hell the album does a 180′ spin, cut ties with the Green Candle and pay the producers an amount that doesn’t equate to beats of the same quality as Trick Daddy’s latest album art cover.

  • http://www.ughiphopnation.com Dilla Donuts

@DJ Premier: Wow, those are basically my exact thoughts. Especially the M-Phazes comment. Emilio & M-Phazes used to be two of my favorite artists to collaborate, period. Now they’re just making shit to get played on the radio. Isn’t that the definition of a Sell-Out?

  • http://www.imeem.com/iontheprize Ion the Prize

To be honest, I wasn’t feeling much of Emilio’s stuff when it was coming out, and I’m still not a fan of a few songs on the mixtape, but I gotta say, when I listen to his verses more, I think he’s really entertaining and his stories can be really engaging. Definitely dig the mixtape and the effort that’s been put behind it.

  • jetter

Have to disagree. Tape is flames to me well balances with records for everyone. Impressive!

  • Matt

This shit is dope to me after one listen… “Tic Toc” and “Sympathy For The Devil” are crazy. ‘Needa take more listens to form a better opinion but as of right now I enjoyed this.

  • areyouSERIOUS!?

did dj premier actually just write that? sounds more like a little boy whos jealous to me. if thats really him he just lost me as a fan, thats forsure. emilio has serious talent and mphazes is one of the illest producers out. bold and arrogant is fun, itsnot a serious record where either of them are showcasing thier talent at its best, they are simply giving everyone something tohave fun with, and it works. LISTEN TO THE WHOLE TAPE and THEN TALK TO US ABOUT THE TALENT TIS PROJECT HAS ON IT. this is easily the best mixtape of the year. this tape was insane. stop your bitching and appreciate something good when it comes around. as for the drake bullshit comparision, youre trippin BALLS man. emilios been the same type of rapper from JUMP. always rapped the exact same way, hes diverse … flows are always different, he has grown as an artist but never changed his style. just cuz drake is popping at the moment you are going to go and compare them? based on what exactly id like to know?
some people are pathetic and seriously dedicated to nothing but hate.
i guess i shouldnt expect more from you though.
GOOD JOB EMILIO, actually AMAZING INCREDIBLE JOB. fuck these haters, everyone else liked it, and you did your thing forsure.

  • 585reppinmikez

hilarious how ppl think that premo actually said that (ITS NOT HIM FOOLS!) and now a few comments after are trying to follow suit… like ” o yes premo, my thoughts exactly” SURE BUDDY !!!!
get your own opinion. THE NATURAL IS MY SHIT!
YES EMILIO, THIS TAPE MADE MY NIGHT LAST NIGHT!

  • haterzarewack

hey there dilla donuts, why dont you go shove your face, get some original thoughts and SHUDDUP! emilios tape GOES HARD! bigups to emilio rojas!

  • Drizz

Oh man this is too funny. Emilio defenders unite!!!

  • DJ Premier

Yes im not “thee” DJ Premier as most people with a couple neurones firing in their brains can figure out. So basically my comment was not to “Hate” on Emilio Rojas I actually think he’s a pretty good rapper, I was just trying to show my Hate towards the Green Candle and my disappointment with a producer I respect. I admit that the Drake comparison held very little weight and was mostly to add some flames to the fire but really what’s the internet for eh, heated discussion between anonymous people.

  • rons1972unes

Emilio gets busy yo….. Real Talk
The Mixtape is Hard Body!!! Real Good Look for The Tri-State
    Area. Congrats Emilio Rojas

Lol @ people trying to hate on what I said and that I’m just “following”. I’ve been listening to Emilio Rojas aka Raks One for longer than a majority of y’all. I can guarantee you that. So if anyone’s opinion matters, it should be mine. Maybe y’all should open your eyes and read what I wrote again about how they were once my favorite emcee/producer duo’s to collaborate, period. My gripe is that he is clearly making tracks now just to get exposure on a mainstream/commercial level, which there’s nothing wrong with if you don’t wanna be true to yourself and the music you started out making, but all the “real” fans aren’t gonna stick around to be a part of that bullshit. M-Phazes is still one of my top 5 favorite producers, I’m simply saying that the work he has done with Emilio for this album as well as The Recession is nowhere close to the M-Phazes I know and love. Now get off my dick…

  • http://www.ughiphopnation.com Dilla Donuts

Go listen to the Emilio Rojas aka Raks One albums “For Good” and “A Breath of Fresh Air” and you’ll see what the fuck I’m talking about with how dope they both can be and why they were once my favorite artists to make tracks together.

  • DJ Premier

I’ve never checked those albums out and since you seem to be on the same level as me I’ll definitely give them a shot. Im not quite sure why all these negative comments about people having the same opinion are surfacing. I mean it goes both ways, half you guys are commenting on how great the album is and then all of a sudden two guys got the same opinion and you jump us like Gucci Mane will be. So seriously why don’t we ask each other why we don’t like certain songs, lets discuss them thoroughly, we aren’t gonna have the same opinion but at the end of the day we can respect each others views. Or not, its really up to you guys.

  • DJ Premier

    @areyouSERIOUS!?
Exactly what am I jealous about?

  • skeme

after a few listens i agree with the M-PHAZES comments about his beats on this project being more on the mainstream level..still a dope mixtape..lyrically you cant front on EMILIO skills..this mixtape is better than a lot of albums that came out this year

  • keith n’ dem

i agree with premier and dilla donuts. this is not an album i want to listen to. i like dope beats, with soul samples, music i can ride through my town and puff a little haze to. the best example would be INI – Center Of Attention. clearly, if you listen to emilios older music, he has changed his sound for a more mainstream approach. some call it evolving, some call it selling out. m-phazes used to be one of my favorite producers, but he too, is deciding to go for a more commercial sound (ala khrysis, illmind). i understand why these artists do it. they realize that the majority of the masses are not fans of smooth, soul sampled beats. just watch 4 minutes of bet or mtv, and see/listen the type of “hip hop” that is being played. these dudes are trying to make a living off of rap, and they realize that the only way to do that is to adapt to what is selling. i have seen so many of my once favorite rapper/producers go this route. it is disappointing, yes. especially when half of them start out rapping about how they would never sell out. but is it suprising? nope.

  • Mitchy Pachino

    @keith n’ dem… genius

@areyouSERIOUS!?.. you are straight up riding Emilio’s dick right now, if you had any ear for respectable Hip Hop you probably would of deleted this tape 6 songs in. P!

  • DJ Premier

Finally some crusaders on my side, anyways you like soul beats and smooth samples, then check out Kev Browns whole catalogue, now there’s something to ride to.

  • paul

has anyone here ever thought that maybe rappers, and artists in general like to try new things … or maybe progress … emilio still does some of his older shit on this mixtape, he also tries many new things, which in my opinion shows his diversity as an artist, and if you asked me being able to make many different types of music is a good thing and a talent in itself.
how about everyone here just stops fighting over someone elses creative work.
who are any of you to say why he did, or didnt do something.
can you say for a fact that these records sound different from some of his older ones because he wants to be like other people? NO YOU CANT. if you asked me this tape is so unlike others that are out now. emilios flow and rhymes alone seperate him from the pack.
i downloaded this tape, to me its more like an album. i am keeping it and i will be listening to it on the regular, i can tell you that much.
i respect ppl who are creative and all artists, rap and otherwise.
words to the wise: dont speculate on other peoples motives for anything, you will never know.

  • thegirl

@dj premier – for one you are probably jealous that emilio rojas is his real name, and you cant even use yours when youre speaking in a public forum :)
    YES EMILIOOOOO! tape is insane!!!!!!!!!

  • jessemin

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!’ hahaha, emilio if they’re talking about you youre doing something right!

  • soulcon

You know what people really need to check out? “A Vision and a Plan” by Phocus, that album is really nice.

  • DJ Premier

    Agreed “thegirl” agreed.

  • http://www.ughiphopnation.com Dilla Donuts

@soulcon: I forgot to mention that “A Vision and A Plan” album also, Muneshine is a real, dope, down to earth artist who doesn’t get the shine he deserves. And that’s the Emilio Rojas I like to hear…

  • J. Rizzle

    Tight mixtape !!!

  • http://deleted Lukus

Nice mixtape, disappointed with M Phazes beats though…

  • DJ Premier

Ya, there some of his worst. Check out “Strange Fruit Project” they got a nuts M Phazes beat.

  • DVient

I was very disappointed by this. It was not what i was expecting.
