That’s an interview with the fella who produced Deja Vu.
And not all the tracks are from ‘91.
Some were made between Illmatic and It Was Written.
If you listen to a lot of the tracks, in particular “Nas Will Prevail” or “I’m a Villain”, you can without a doubt hear the Rakim influence early on…
The way he says
“A modern Shakespeare – reincarnated
Brains are elevated, I’m being R-rated”
you would swear the God spit it…
From the same track,
“Hittin your heart with a hollow-tip verbally illin
Minds minipulated, my raps are nickel-plated”
Listen to the intonation and tempo, the shit is so Ra it’s not even funny.
Even the way he used quick one-lines as choruses and scratches ala “I’m a Villain”…
This shit is really eye opening and makes me appreciate his old stuff even more.
@A_S Good looking out for the interview. I never heard Deja Vu till a like 2 years back off a J love mixtape but everytime i hear it i think of 95. Even though the first verse is off Verbal Intercourse ( which is arguably the BEST verse on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ) it still sounds ill over the Deja Vu beat and the second and third verses are just fucking BRILLIANT. The imagery and intellect on the track is Damn near miraculous. Damn shame this track wasn’t put out properly.
