Rytmus: Jediny [prod by DJ Premier]

Marek Kamarýt sent us a track from a Slovak emcee named Rytmus. The track is called “Jediny” and is produced by the legendary DJ Premier. My question for you is this: can you bump a track that you can’t understand? The beat is some serious heat from Premo but is that meaningless if you don’t know a word the emcee is saying? Listen to the track after the jump and let us know your opinion.

I’ve always had this question, since I’m a lyrics guy quite regularly.

But since I started doing reviews and becoming a “Critic” I’ve taken a different look at things like this. I can’t say much about it from a lyrical perspective, but I can say the word meshing is impressive enough to hold its own on any other beat it seems. The Premier beat is a premier beat, and its a good one at that. I could bump this and at least appreciate it for what it was.

I gotta say, it also came as a huge surprise considering that I had no idea who this guy was, and quickly assumed that this was just a taken beat from another album. Turned out it was an original and I sent the message to KEv. IT was a pleasant surprise to me, at least, to see Preem taking a leap like this

We saw earlier with Big Daddy Kane and Deams (from Amsterdam). That shit was cool too, in fact, Deams had a dope EP.

I’m really into portrait and music photography and that’s a great snap of a master focused on his craft and in the zone

sounds like a very old beat. not very innovative and not sounding very fat.
the overall mix is pretty unbalanced.
i think i wouldnt like the track even if i understand the lyrics. :D

I dont think the language matters if its a good song, i listen to alot of french and polish rap, also some german shit on graffiti videos, check out GLORY DAYS hannover train writing for some serious mixes and german fresstyles, im trying to get the music off it and uploaded.

Can’t listen to this particular track right now cuz I’m at work but in regards to the topic: I would say it all depends on the flow. To me, if the beat’s dope and the emcee is flowing well over top of it, then I’ll bump it whether I understand the words or not. I go back to The World According to RZA album that came out a few years back. There are several tracks from that album that I bump despite not being to understand the lyrics. I’m also glad to see Primo branch out and do some stuff with international artists although he has also worked with a Japanese emcee named Zeebra on a track named “Untouchable” that I really like…

Can’t understand the lyrics plus the beat is extremely lacklustre. Therefor won’t be bangin this one.

To a degree would be my answer. Im a hip hop fan in the first place because i think lyrics are important. Flow and delivery are high on the list which redeems non-english speaking emcees to a degree but with that said flow and delivery are there to complement the lyrics imo. Its a sort of Group Home vibe with international hip hop for me, the beats would have to be ridiculous.

i’m a “foreign” MC and producer, i like what is good ! the voice, the flow, the vibe, wordplays, the beat, scratches, english or not, if it’s good, it’s good ! i feel it !
But i must say that, although being a Primo fan since day one, i don’t feel this one.

lmfao DJ Premier hating on his own track… haha hilarious. Sometimes I like Japanese rap just because of the flow but yeah I can’t listen to it a lot. Just once in a while.
