It’s finally here! DJ Chong Wizard hooks up with Thick Magazine & KevinNottingham.com to present Eclectic Relaxation: A Tribute to A Tribe Called Quest. This mixtape has been a work in progress since last summer when a beat contest was hosted on KevinNottingham.com for producers to recreate their favorite ATCQ tracks. Hundreds of entries were submitted and the best made the cut.
Featuring emcees such as Del The Funky Homosapien, El Da Sensei, The Lessondary (Jermiside, Tanya Morgan, etc), Frank Nitti (of Frank N Dank), Moka Only, Bootie Brown and many more, Eclectic Relaxation is sure to give Tribe fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for… a proper tribute!

Much thanks to everybody involved in the making of this wonderful mixtape. I’ll most likely be thanking each of you individually in person, on the phone or thru email. It’s a honor to have all these great MCs, DJs and producers contribute to this masterpiece! For anybody who recorded a song to the mixtape that wasn’t used. Im sorry but don’t worry because I’ll be releasing a extended “Director’s Cut” version of the mixtape. Which will feature at least another 5 songs… sometime in the next week or two. Yo Best Quality… sorry your beat didn’t make it on the mixtape… that might of been my favorite beat out of the whole competition… I could write a book on the behind the scene’s stories of the making of this mixtape…
first I tired to get Chip Fu on your beat… he seemed down…
Then 5 Ft. from Black Moon said he wanted to do Luck of Lucien… so I sent him your beat… he was feelin it and was down… I told him that Chip Fu might be down too… he was mad excited because he was a huge Chip Fu fan… after hassling Chip Fu for weeks… he said he was too busy… meanwhile I was talking with Cymarshall Law about doing a track… he said he wanted to be on a track with a big name rapper or a legend… I told him about Luck of Lucien and how 5 Ft. was doing it but he could get up on it too… after waiting months… that never materialized… then I sent the beat to Izza Kizza… and he was feelin it… but he couldn’t find time to record… then Mike Marshall and Equipto wanted to do Luck of Lucien… but for some reason wanted their producer to remake the beat more like the original… that never happened…. so yeah thats the story of why your beat didnt make the cut…. I might still use it as a new intro for the Revised edition of the mixtape Im droppin in a few weeks… it will have more songs and some extra verses… and better mix-downs on a few songs…
This is silly good. Huge Tribe fan and I love the way everyone interpreted various songs into their own. I think my jaw literally hit the floor when I heard the Wax & EOM track. That thing is bananas.
Yeah the Wax and EOM joint is crazy, but that Dutchmassive track speaks to me.
