so it begins….
Shit was hella dope. Every track was bangin
Chris Young killed that shit…i got some heat for him
Out of curiosity… what are everyone’s favorite tracks from the tape? Which artists would you like to hear more from?
Cy Cy Cy !!!
What the fuck do U think I make music 4
Its an art of war, I dance wit metaphors – kick open heaven’s doors
and Then I tell U why I roar

I’m like Chris Brown – I went off the wall
but I’m young…So niggas think I’m destined to fall
– Chris Young, Dead Man FreeStyle (track #2)
…nuff said
More production by Faust & G.C. …I like both tracks produced G.C. actually. More rhymes from Truck North… and Trav Williams depending on the beats – he reminds me of how dope Too Short could’ve been had he stepped his flow up. This is a nice range of music overall, are all of these artists releasing music under HiPNOTT this year?
Sick tape Kev, how does one get onto one of these mixtapes?
Front2Back this joint was hot…hell the intro was better than most people’s entire project. My money is waiting to hear Cy & Chris Young do a couple of cuts together…with Raven doing a couple of bars on one of those joints. Hell you got the makings of a nasty female duo with Raven & Tieye…dude, Forbes calls this an embarassment of riches.
I’m a Age of Aquarian, life bearing soul
Here to plant truth – and watch it blossom like marigold
See I refuse to follow man
His foundation is delusion, myth, & holograms
sinking in a pile of sand
Blown by the gust in the storm
Who would ever oppose god in feminine form!!!
Only a foolish 85er – would ever conspire…….
Damn…I see some interesting Freestyle Friday battles
Ok, back to the product – its redunkulous!!! However, I would be me if I didn’t hit you with the flip side:
1) Truck North needs production that doesn’t compete/overpower his verbal carnage. I was just sitting there listening waiting for him to explode. Then I pictured him whupping another artists ass and the beat trying to push him out the way and gets some shots in…which shouldn’t be the case with his style; the beat just needs to be there for his get away
2) Chris Young is my favorite BUT the 2nd verse he started channelling The Real Slim Shady; a nice comparison but it takes away from his presentation. Keep him on those strings/classical/ productions because he’s like Fred Astaire with the beat
3) Get rid of the girl doing the voice overs. You need a more heavy sultry voice that’s throaty (something different like eastern europe or india/pakistan accent) and not some one trying to sound sensual. What she’s saying is fine & perfect placement by the producers, her voice just doesn’t fit as well as it should. She reminds me of the female on the Black Album minus the accent…its the french accent that made her work.
4) Don’t let your female artist get forgotten – they got skills!!!
5) El Prez has a nice storying telling flow BUT tell him to read that post on Hip-Hop remakes because he came close to violating Article 20 N.Y.C. § 1412(mc)(78)(BX)(3) Subsection MIC of Rule #2 of MC governance
6) K Sparks needs some of that superhero music (Faust & G.C.) to go with that redunkulous flow
BTW – that was Tiye Phoenix – Down on that last quote.
@Kid Captian: some, not all
@Jimmy Bluntz: this mixtape is in promotion of the upcoming year for HiPNOTT Records, featuring our artists as well as artists who we work close with and support the movement
@Jigsaw: thanks for the critique homie!
@Jigsaw
“Stick-Up Kids” is a concept song and homage to one of the greatest storytelling tracks ever, Slick Rick’s “Children’s Story”. I’ve always been proactive in bridging the gap between today and yesterday’s hip hop culture because today’s hip hop listeners tend to believe this started ten years ago, and not 30+ years ago. So me flipping parts of the Ruler’s verse was only my way of paying homage to the song and author, and hopefully educating newer listeners that recognized my homage to go out and discover more about the man and his music.
I apologize if I didnt explicitly state that in the title like so much of music and media is done today, but sometimes it IS better to have to read between the lines. Hunting for your food(for thought) makes the taste that much better.
Lastly, shouts to Kevin and Kareem at Hipnott for asking me to be a part of this project, and to everyone whos enjoying my song, and the tape as a whole.
Animal Style is on the menu Prezidents Day 2010…
El Prez
Word up Prez… looking forward to working with you again. You got us waitin on that Animal Style though!
