Mama Said Knock You Out Remix Project: Week 3

So here we are… Week 3! This week we are remixing “Eat ‘em Up, L Chill,” which samples the famous “Atomic Dog” and the Five Stairsteps’ “Don’t Change Your Love.” We’re only gonna require you to sample “Atomic Dog” for your beat, but feel free to use anything else. Of course this song has been sampled in just about everything, so I’m sure you’re gonna want to do your best to bring something different to the table.

Hit the jump for the complete rules for the contest and the links to the samples you will need for your beat. Final remixes are due next Sunday, January 31st @ 3:00pm Eastern Standard Time. Good luck!

Here’s how the contest will work… for 14 weeks, we will hold a weekly contest… 14 weeks/14 remixes. Each Sunday we will provide the sample to be flipped for the week. You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 3:00pm Eastern Standard Time the following Sunday. For those of you overseas, make sure to get your clocks right. Once all beat entries have been accepted, the judges will take the next week (or more) to listen and comment on those beats. At the end of each week, I’ll post up the judges’ comments, their picks, and the winner for the week.

To submit your entry: Convert your finished remix to MP3 format and upload via the web form posted below. Please include the name you wish to be credited with in the mp3 file name, along with the name of the remix. For example: Tokyo Cigar – Boomin System Remix.mp3. In the file description, please include your contact information so we can email you if you have won. All files uploaded to the system will be displayed below as well and can be streamed for everyone to check out, so there is no need to upload your remix to other file sharing sites and leave links in the comments. DO NOT put your links in the CBOX. A lot of times, producers are eager to upload their remixes as soon as they finish it and realize they forgot to tweak something. Please take the time to make sure you are submitting your final version before you upload to the system. If you do end of making changes to your remix and need to upload another version, make sure you name your mp3 with the word FINAL at the end (ex. G.C. – Boomin System Remix – FINAL.mp3). If you do end up uploading multiple versions of your remix, we can not be held accountable for listening to the wrong remix as your final version.

Oh, which brings me to one more rule… ONLY ONE REMIX PER PERSON ALLOWED

Other than that, just make sure you sample the song provided each week and that you construct your remix so that an emcee will be able to hop on it later on. You can use any other elements you want in your beat (other samples, original instrumentation, etc).

There is no registration process and anyone can enter at anytime.

ENTRIES FOR THIS CONTEST ARE CLOSED.

Word up mayne…this is an interesting week for the remix comp…to only utilize the Atomic Dog jawn…its a tough one, drums all over the bloodclat song lol…makes it hard to really come up with something different from what a lot of producers have done and still use recognisable elements from the song…Just using the kick snare and hat would feel like such a lame effort…..word up….lets go to work yo…

Ya’ll ever hear the Mr.Dibiase flip of Atomic Dog called Atomic Slop? It is dropping on his new EP called Cakeology. As soon as I listened to this sample I was like ohhhh I recognize this now. http://www.fatcityrecordings.com/fcr/homeRelease.php?rid=162 You can check it out there, really creative use of the sample. Ok, time to get to work on my submission, peace!

just a quick one this week, not the best sample, found a skippy kick right at the end to use which was pretty cool.

  • http://www.myspace.com/darkhorse10036 Elias aka Darkhorse10036

Kevin, for the EM-C’s that bring it on the remix’,would you like to have the data files to change up the bars (i.e. .rex files)?
I use Reason and Sony Acid as my program of choice for production, and I must say, I am familiar with the talent of producers that have showcased they product and, I am very impressed by the way they organize they beats showcased.
Peace to all the Producers who do they thing on kevinnottingham.com with the remixes for all to nod they head to.

  • MR ENHANCER

word up, uploaded mines…like somebody else said, the sample was difficult to utilize in a new way but wanted to partake regardless..constructive critiquing is most welcome…

  • Monev360

big ups to everybody who have stepped up to the challenge this week and chopped up atomic dog.
my favorites so far are 44th Productions, BMS (I think it would have been better without the rhyme animal sample though), EB Productions, Elias, Funknox Beats, and BuckOner.
Contests like this are good practice, and I’m glad to be on here with people who care about the art of it.

  • Monev360

bidimridim, you hurt us everytime! the track is hot.

  • Tactical Factor

That was a task & a half, tried a lot of things, it’s was hard to be satisfied, in the end i’m happy.
Boggie Flaha, that’s a clean mix man, nice work.
Buck one, i like what you did with all the chops, props
other cool one’s 44th, EB, Funknox.
Elias i like ya beat to man.

  • Ion the Prize

This week was the most interesting because I didn’t know at all what to expect. I loved the darker themed songs especially. Just to name a few…
@Elias: I’m a big fan of the tones in there, sounds like Bob James “Nautilus” and reminds me of Aesop Rock
@Isbjerg: Has the punch and instrumentation right up there with Deltron 3030. In other words, epic!
I’m also a big fan of Funknox and Tactical Factor’s keyboard/synths, among others.
My mix ended up happy for some reason though, I don’t know how. Hope you like slap bass. I appreciate the feedback, will try to reciprocate.
Been producing all night on things so I should give my ears a rest. Peace.

  • Tactical Factor

@Ion the Prize, that’s funky man, nice & crisp, you got me, i’m a fan. ( i’m nodding & shaking my head at the same time)

  • http://www.myspace.com/ebprodbeats EB Productions (EasterBunny)

Ion The Prize: Daaamn son! thats heavy!
