For Week 5 in our Mama Said Knock You Out Remix Project, we are remixing “Murdergram.” The original song samples from James Brown’s “My Thang,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Moment of Truth,” and ESG’s “UFO.” For this remix, we are only requiring you to sample Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Moment of Truth,” but feel free to use the other samples to craft your beat. Remember, there are no acapellas in this contest. Beats only, and then we’ll get some emcees to rap over them.
Hit the jump for the complete rules for the contest and the links to the samples you will need for your beat. Final remixes are due next Sunday, February 14th @ 3:00pm Eastern Standard Time. Good luck!
Here’s how the contest will work… for 14 weeks, we will hold a weekly contest… 14 weeks/14 remixes. Each Sunday we will provide the sample to be flipped for the week. You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 3:00pm Eastern Standard Time the following Sunday. For those of you overseas, make sure to get your clocks right. Once all beat entries have been accepted, the judges will take the next week (or more) to listen and comment on those beats. At the end of each week, I’ll post up the judges’ comments, their picks, and the winner for the week.
To submit your entry: Convert your finished remix to MP3 format and upload via the web form posted below. Please include the name you wish to be credited with in the mp3 file name, along with the name of the remix. For example: Tokyo Cigar – Boomin System Remix.mp3. In the file description, please include your contact information so we can email you if you have won. All files uploaded to the system will be displayed below as well and can be streamed for everyone to check out, so there is no need to upload your remix to other file sharing sites and leave links in the comments. DO NOT put your links in the CBOX. A lot of times, producers are eager to upload their remixes as soon as they finish it and realize they forgot to tweak something. Please take the time to make sure you are submitting your final version before you upload to the system. If you do end of making changes to your remix and need to upload another version, make sure you name your mp3 with the word FINAL at the end (ex. G.C. – Boomin System Remix – FINAL.mp3). If you do end up uploading multiple versions of your remix, we can not be held accountable for listening to the wrong remix as your final version.
Oh, which brings me to one more rule… ONLY ONE REMIX PER PERSON ALLOWED
Other than that, just make sure you sample the song provided each week and that you construct your remix so that an emcee will be able to hop on it later on. You can use any other elements you want in your beat (other samples, original instrumentation, etc).
There is no registration process and anyone can enter at anytime.

44th Pro – A real killer..I really like the approach to the samples and the way you twisted the verse thru to the chorus – Nice one…
BMS – Jean Michel Jarre meets Pete Rock… Good use of the drums..
BQ – I like the 90s vibe on it.. really simple, but a true remix of that age..Nice chorus..
Buck Oner – I like the buildup in the joint.. I feel some Dilla in this..
Funknox – DAMN ! A winner right there… Shizzle you had me wishing that nice beat… I wanna have that in rotation for the summer.. I seriously wanna have that joint – Its so juicy…
GMG – Sweet one… Running for the hill…
Iceman – I dont feel the beat and the rest following each other… Its like the joint’s running in two directions..
Isbjerg – Winner material.. I like the battle rap vibe in the vibes, the little step between verse and chorus.. Hes a great producer..
JFK – I like the soulful vibe and can hear Big Wax being the ultimate on this..
Jonah Christian – RJD2 would wish he had made this… Songs like this is good for ages and contains something new in each bite..
Dzajkovski – I like the joint ( looking for the sample ) and I would filter the synths thru some vintage vinyle sound as a nice crispy touch..
Monev360 – Am I the only one who can hear Beanie spit venom on this ? Very nice track..
Ill One – Solid one.. A bit the same but a nice approach..
Psymon – I would say that the hihat is a bit to high and bring the stabs in higher… Its a great attempt..
Rah Mac – Another one… I was waiting for MC Lyte to praise the verse… Finger Licking good..
Tactical Factor – Great minds think alike, as we go thru the remixes and yours got some nice extra stabs in the bag..
TicToc – The beat takes me places.. Im a bit distracted by the obvious downtempo but you bring some energy to the structure, so it works..
first time here , but really enjoyin some of the mixes thats been laid down ……i give mad respect to all productionists …..
