Not a whole lot dropping today, but there sure are some gems. Today’s release day concentrates on quality over quantity. One that I already have pre-ordered is the new album from Freeway & Jake One. Others to check out is the Return of the Wu album and the new Jedi Mind Tricks LP. Also, the homie Toki Wright is dropping a new EP digitally today. According to Toki’s Facebook, looks like his EP got pushed to Thursday. Hit the jump and let us know what you’re coppin…

What albums are you coppin today?

hey just wanted to let you know the aotp dont drop til march

Thanks for the heads up. As of last night, Amazon had it listed as coming out today. Now it’s nowhere on their site.

I’m telling you, something has to be done about release dates and album promotion. Seems that some of these albums just come out of no where without any promotion and those that get promoted keep getting pushed back.

Collective Efforts’ Freezing World is a must cop! I preordered Stimulus Package and I’ll get Toki’s new one whenever it drops.

Whats going on wit Hip-Hop… I went to Best Buy to cop that new Freeway and they didn’t have it (they actually only had 3 1/2 rows of music for ALL genres, mostly OLD ish) then I called Be-Bop Music before I drove to the other side of town and they said not in stock.. BUT we can order it. Man I REALLY try to support good music but they are making in harder and harder each week. From now on I’m just gonna order my stuff online, but I always wonder if it is a second party seller and if the artists is really receiving their just due? SORRY but I needed to VENT!!!!! *whew*

yo, I hear you Iz-O. I order ALL my shit online and the Freeway joint was worth it, cuz they also sent the instrumentals, the Don Cannon mixtape and the Freelapse mixtape and I got it TODAY. Only downside to ordering online is sometimes you don’t get the CDs right away, but it’s totally worth it. Best thing to do is order directly through the artist/label if they have a pre-order or just go through Amazon.

I always wondered, which method of purchase puts the most $$ in the artist pocket? I used to cop physical releases, but now I almost exclusively grab through iTunes or Amazon mp3, because it’s more convenient & actually costs less generally. Any insight?

I shouldn’t matter whether you buy physical or digital.. the artist should get the same return. If the artist puts his music out through a label (whether digital or physical), both the label and the distributor gets a cut so there’s no way an artist will get 100% of his royalties. I hope that makes sense. Point: it doesn’t matter.

Realest talk ever, I get all my tunes online. Whether it’s thru amazon.com or itunes, etc. I can’t even support Amoeba’s or Rasputin’s these days. The price of a cd is like 15.99 for some damn underground ish. Plus half the time what i’m lookin for aint even in stock. When In the Ruff dropped Rasputin’s only ordered a few copies originally. Since the album has gotten a lil buzz all a sudden they carryin’ hella copies now. WTF? I’m stickin to the net for gettin music. Gd lookin out as always on the newest releases Kev.

Yeah, but if a release is done digitally – thus requiring no pressing / printing / distribution … shouldn’t an artist (& label) get more $$ without the costs & middlemen? Somehow I can see the label making all that saved $$ back without giving an artist their cut. That’s what i meant, like is it proportional to the extra cost saved?
