    Holy ish! Thanks!

  • Roadium Head

Dope that people pay tribute to Dre, but giving more information about the Roadium Swap Meet in Torrance, and what it meant to West Coast hip-hop would be essential. Steve Yano’s record store was where Dr. Dre sold mixtapes pre-NWA era. Eazy E had approached Yano because he wanted to open a record store, Yano suggested starting a record label instead. Yano introduced Eazy to Dre, resulting the indie release of “Boyz in the Hood,” and eventual explosion of NWA. Sharing the tapes are kool, sharing the knowledge is essential.

“You Got Ganked Mixtape Pt. 5″ links don’t work.

  • J. Rizzle

The links are working as of yesterday and checked again, this morning…worked fine for me

I used to head to the ROADIUM swapmeet to buy the Tapes from Steve for $10.00!! They were the bomb!!!!! One time I did see, Erick Wright picking up albums……after wards, i came tofind out it was Ez E. black raiders jacket, black dickies, and glasses……GREAT MEMORIES!

I grew up about four blocks froem the Roadium and owned just about every tape, then stupidly let someone borrow them all and then lost touch with them…Here’s the best article I have ever found about the Roadium that ran in the LA Times, I don’t think their link is active anymore though but ThaFormula ran it too….

Yo quickly scanning the goods I found an error, this one with U Got Ganked:

    14. Young MC – Let ‘Em Know
    15. Too Short – Cusswords

It’s not Cuss Words on that tape, it’s Dope Fiend Beat. I think Dre had stopped making Roadium tapes by the time Too Short’s Life Is Too Short that has Cuss Words on it came out. By that time he was mostly devoted to NWA and their output.

    Anyway it’s Dope Fiend Beat.

I’ve seen some funny erroneous shit online, like one cat clearly not knowing Toddy Tee’s song on a mixtape and calling it “The Batterman” lol.

I actually worked right next to Steves booth…every weekend people would be flipping the pages of that binder where all the mixtapes were cataloged…definitely a great experience to be there and hear all the new music!
