So we are about halfway through the beat portion of our Mama Said Knock You Out Remix Project. I think it’s going quite well! This week, we’ll be remixing “Farmer’s Blvd.” The seventh track on the album samples Willie Hutch’s “Brothers Gonna Work it Out” and “Mack Man,” Barry White’s “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Babe,” and Billy Preston’s “I Wrote A Simple Song.” Marley Marl went IN on this one and I’m sure you will too. The main sample we want you to use in your beat this week is “Mack Man,” but feel free to incorporate any of the others. Remember, there are no acapellas in this contest. Beats only, and then we’ll get some emcees to rap over them.
Hit the jump for the complete rules for the contest and the links to the samples you will need for your beat. Final remixes are due next Sunday, February 28th @ 3:00pm Eastern Standard Time. Good luck!
Here’s how the contest will work… for 14 weeks, we will hold a weekly contest… 14 weeks/14 remixes. Each Sunday we will provide the sample to be flipped for the week. You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 3:00pm Eastern Standard Time the following Sunday. For those of you overseas, make sure to get your clocks right. Once all beat entries have been accepted, the judges will take the next week (or more) to listen and comment on those beats. At the end of each week, I’ll post up the judges’ comments, their picks, and the winner for the week.
To submit your entry: Convert your finished remix to MP3 format and upload via the web form posted below. Please include the name you wish to be credited with in the mp3 file name, along with the name of the remix. For example: Tokyo Cigar – Boomin System Remix.mp3. In the file description, please include your contact information so we can email you if you have won. All files uploaded to the system will be displayed below as well and can be streamed for everyone to check out, so there is no need to upload your remix to other file sharing sites and leave links in the comments. DO NOT put your links in the CBOX. A lot of times, producers are eager to upload their remixes as soon as they finish it and realize they forgot to tweak something. Please take the time to make sure you are submitting your final version before you upload to the system. If you do end of making changes to your remix and need to upload another version, make sure you name your mp3 with the word FINAL at the end (ex. G.C. – Boomin System Remix – FINAL.mp3). If you do end up uploading multiple versions of your remix, we can not be held accountable for listening to the wrong remix as your final version.
Oh, which brings me to one more rule… ONLY ONE REMIX PER PERSON ALLOWED
Other than that, just make sure you sample the song provided each week and that you construct your remix so that an emcee will be able to hop on it later on. You can use any other elements you want in your beat (other samples, original instrumentation, etc).
There is no registration process and anyone can enter at anytime.

Yo, yo, yo!! Back in the damn thang!!! Haven’t been feelin these samples for the past few weeks man…but I just about managed to flip good ‘ol Willie. Props to all the tracks up already…The Cool
thanks JFK. this is just another week of good practice. i wish everybody the best who has and will submit tracks this week.
44th – Taking New York.. Damn hard..
Taurus – Synth chop master… Some samples have been chopped beyond belief.. Amazing..
Funknox – Nice vibe… I dig the ghost house theme..
JamPack – I dont know why, but I hear Lordz of Brooklyn on this… Good edge..
JFK – A whole lot more chopping this week from all, but yours seems to fit perfectly…
DoNotFire – I would have turned up the drums so they can play along..
Monev360 – I really like your intro and the buildup,if I should pick one thing is your hihat is off ? Or is it me ?
Yo 44th- UGLY AS HELL. Thats how that beat made my face. I was like like UGHHH. Dope ass beat fam. Incredible flip and some slick drums.
Funknox- Yo yo made that joint mad dark. Makes me think of dark carharts and hoodies and tims in the winter at night. Great sound sprinkles too.
Yo Isbjerg – SALUTE. Peace fam. Yo that joint sounds mad Tribal. On some safari shit. I like how you kept it open but still tweaked it right. The drums are stupid hard and as usual your hi hat game is crazy. Nice layering and intro too.
The cool- Yo that shit is mad fucking hypnotic. It’s like one of them simple but ILL beats. You picked the right parts to ride out. I like how the vocal sample just drops in and out. Yo if you turn up the drums a little it would be even more crazy.
Nuff respect due
Yo Tokyo, thanx for the props man, much appreciated…can’t wait to hear yours man. I think all of the joints are pretty much fire, but Funknox took it for me. I heard that shit and was sick in my cereal. Goddamn
Nottingfam thanx for the comments. Yo Tokyo where u been son! haven’t heard remixes from u in time. Im assuming your absence from the comps mean your in the lair cooking some heat up. Yeeeeeaaaa!!
@ 44th and Donotfire Peace Peace Peace. I always gotta give props where props is due. Yeah i been out the cages for this one. Been busy working hard on different joints i’m bout to drop like the instrumental album, new Plexiglass Fountain shit etc and trying to live my retarded ass life too lol. Plus so many new cats are bringing the heat for these rounds i’m just laying back and vibing off it. Word up, some of the illest new Beat Cooks came outta this site right here and i’m liking what the next generation is coming with. Cats are either flipping shit in CRAZY ways and coming up with new sounds and ideas or Cats are updating the boom bap shit flawlessly for 2010.
Nuff respet due
@ Tokyo – I agree…I think KevNot has brought the best out of all of us…dudes really go in for these remixes. I hear some of these cats and seriously know I need to up my game. But yo, it’s all good. I wanna go even harder for next week. I already made another two joints from ‘Mack Man,’ both are probably iller than what I submitted!
On another note…where the fuck is G.C.? I haven’t seen him in a minute…I know he’s been working on projects and all but, I wanna hear him flip for the regulars!
I posted mine !!!!
Good luck everybody . I agree with you Monev360 it was a dope sample to flip
peace

buck oner, your joint is crazy man! it sounds like it could be a wu-tang track.
Isbjerg, your beat is tight. I like the way you separated the guitars, chopped the barry white break and made it minimal. On my track, I don’t think my hihats are off, I looped up the I’m Just Gonna Love You break and added more drums to it. u might be hearin some sounds that I used for percussion in the beginning of Mack Man. I don’t know. its all good though.
Thx for the comment Monev, I appreciate
sup fam¡¡¡, Best Quality esta en el track.

what up all , man uploaded a track but dam cant see it in the play box …..what up with that was there the day i uploaded it .?
What did you name your remix? After we close the contest on Sunday, I always rename all the remixes to the producer’s name only to make it easier for the judges to know who they are listening to. Unfortunately some people can’t follow directions and upload remixes with no name or contact info attached. I think there were 2 remixes uploaded this week that had very generic names, such as “week 7 remix” with no name or anything in the description. Those remixes are automatically disqualified simply because I don’t want to listen to a remix, and if I like it try to hunt down the person that did it. If your remix falls into that category, I’m sorry it had to be that way.
it was called mackman remixx mp3 …..but cool i think i was in a hurry uploading it …..sweet thems the rules ……might have better luck this week …thanks kevin
It’s kinda messed up that anyone can download this stuff. I would not have even submitted if I knew that!
@Teazy – You don’t want anyone to hear your beat?
of course I’d like people to hear my stuff, but why have the download function? It’s not like anyone would know that I made it once someone d/l it. Shoulda tagged it up. No disrespect, this is a cool contest, but I see no point in the download function at all.
@Teazy Im signed in box.net, so then I can know how many people download my remix, I have like 50 downloads of all my remixes on the 7 weeks of the contest so I think that’s great to know that the people like my music and they put in in their’s ipods and stuff,
Im in this contest for hip hop love not for money so any one can download my remixes here
