First of all, the good news is that Guru is doing well and should make a full recovery. But this story of what Solar is doing to his family needs to be shared. As many know Solar has been working with Guru for the past 6 years. Now, according to Guru’s nephew Justin Nicholas-Elam Ruff, his family has had no clue what’s going on because Solar has full control. This is really a sad story but it needs to be told. Hit producer and Guru’s longtime partner Superproducer Solar wants to make clear that only he has access to Guru and his doctors and he would appreciate if people would respect Guru’s privacy in this matter.
“Guru is resting and doing well after his surgery. The doctors say that he will fully recover from his illness. We thank everyone who send prayers our way and we appreciate the outpouring of love from around the world!”
Guru, the sole founder of the world famous Hip-Hop group Gang Starr, who is currently recovering from his surgery, issued an official statement about his health status and addressed people who are spreading wrong information.
“I am doing fine and I am recovering! I’m weak though. Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation. Any info from anybody else is false! I appreciate your well wishes and all the love!” says the legendary MC.
Guru, born Keith Elam, has suffered a heart attack over the weekend in New York City and Hip-Hop fans around the world have shown massive love and support to one of the greatest rappers of all time.

this is unbelievable. how are you going to shut out the family and keep them away from the hospital and from the person. this can’t be legal. if it was a spouse or something like that then i can see, but a music producer. i would go to the hospital with a lawyer and see whats up then. WTF is that about?? How would a business associate have more rights & privileges than the immediate family? This REALLY isn’t makin sense to me. Unfortunately, because GURU created a legal document STIPULATING that Solar was the executive of his legal directives there is nothing that anyone can do. The doctors/hospitals/etc. are obligated to the patient & their LEGALLY dictated wishes; which is why the family has been stopped in their desire to see him by the hospital staff. Those are legal facts that you can’t get around – right or wrong, ethical or unethical; unless you go to court, as his nephew alluded to thinking about doing, and have that document revoked.
More importantly, before we jump the gun & judge Solaar, the question that has to be asked is “WHY” GURU would restrict his family in this manner? This obstensibly begets the question whose rights are paramount – the patient’s or the family. This has always been one of the major impetus for a gay marriage bill, because familys ostracize same sex partners during medical crisises when such a law is not in place; this however is the flip side of that equation – the lawyer, or gay partner, or business partner has the authority, not the family. PLEASE NOTE that this is not to imply a same-sex relationship between GURU & Solaar but to illustrate how preparation over one’s medical, financial, burial wishes can be misunderstood &/or abused after the fact when not properly communicated upfront to all parties involved.

While i feel for his nephew as he seems to be innocent in all this. The fact that Guru has been quoted. Says to me he is in a fit enough state to make decisions. Which would pose the question-

Anything that has gone on with the family is merely speculation so i couldn’t possibly comment. While i’m not sure i believe, someone who has written some of the most profound and thought provoking lyrics over the last 20 years is being led or brainwashed by a producer that is neither ’super’ or a ‘producer’ (for that matter) in the terms we would label his real 1 time partner!
However i do hope this gets sorted and, overall GURU gets back to strength and preem and him see to their senses and get back together.
After all the many times i’ve seen him i have yet to hear the name ‘Solar’ be shouted out by thousands of people after he asks;

FYI – I can only infer that GURU created a legal document dictating his wishes in a medical emergency based upon these heretofore irrefutable facts:
1) the actions of the hospital & staff
2) the nephew’s comments
3) the family’s inability to still see him
Unfortunately, this is another one of those depressingly hard “teachable moments” that we all need to pay heed to and address ASAP. Don’t leave your family & love ones to guess about what you intend for them to do as it relates to your medical &/or funeral intentions – get a living will and or advance directives for medical decisions done while you are of sound mind & body. If you don’t then you will facilitate the disharmony & hatred that tears families apart when they should be coming together.
My wife’s family had to learn this lesson the hard way – despite wise counsel prior to said tragedy. Don’t let it happen to your family.
@anon Guru has not said any of these things. This is all Solar releasing statements & quoting himself as speaking for Guru. All Guru’s “comments” have been press releases put out by this guy. This guy is a clown & is being exposed. Freddie Foxxx has commented on it & he’s known Guru longer than him. Think about it….Solar ruined Gang Starr and Gang Starr Foundation. Now he’s attempting to ruin this guy’s family as well.

Now whether or not that is a fabrication on Solars part is another matter.
The way media and language works is When something is written in quotations and in first person we can only assume it has been reiterated by Solar from the source being GURU.

The problem with what your saying is none of these sites reporting (allhiphop or hiphopdx) have seen Guru, the are basing these quotes off press releases. Just be cynical for second. How can someone who just got out of massive surgery like this be informed on all the rumors going around, think about & then make a comment on it? It’s just unrealistic. My point on Foxxx was that he spoke to Solar’s manipulation power and has seen what this guy has done to Guru. Now I understand that Guru is a grown man but there can still be something wrong with how he’s handle this by giving this dude such power. His family having to hit up Solar on twitter for information? That’s terrible!

Sorry for the confusion between Solar & Solaar.
However, what cannot and should not be confused is this…the actions of the hospital staff as it relates to immediate family. They are the only individual(s) that have access to a patient UNLESS directed otherwise by said individual (in writing and in some instances verbally).
I come from a very huge family (mother is 1 of 14, dad 1 of
with a lot of cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. When my father had open heart surgery, my cousins woud sign into the CC unit as his sons/daughters and we would always have someone downstairs to instruct family on how to sign in.
I could care less what the various sites are saying & who is quoting what – its the resulting actions of the hospital & family members that are so telling & informative. Their actions SUGGEST that GURU had an advance directive for medical decisions in place.
