HiPNOTT Records is hosting a premier of its kind producer remix contest for the track “Watching Me” (featuring Chris Young and Julius Francis) from the A Day in the Life album by K. Sparks, originally produced solely by G.C. The winner will then have the opportunity to remix the entire album as their own project, which will be released on HiPNOTT Records later this year.
From “Watching Me”, expect a variety of lyrical delivery tempos, witty wordplay from both Chris Young and K. Sparks, and a harmonious chorus by Julius Francis; a solid foundation for producers of every experience level to reinterpret for this contest. Contest rules, submission guidelines, and judging information:
Entry Date and Deadline:
- The contest opens 12:00am EST on March 5, 2010, and closes at 11:59pm EST on March 19, 2010. All entries must be received on or before 11:59pm EST on March 19, 2010
- The winning remix will be announced and played on Cypher Lounge Radio on March 24, 2010 between 10:00pm and 11:59pm EST
To Enter:
- Download the acapella below. Craft your remix around the vocals and submit a 320kbps file of your remix along with your name and email address to XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
- All remixes should be titled in the same format: NameofProducer.mp3
- Only one entry allowed per person
Judging:
- All entries will be judged and selected exclusively by K. Sparks, G.C. and HiPNOTT Records
- K. Sparks will announce the winning remix for the contest on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 live on Cypher Lounge Radio
Prize:
- The winning producer will have the opportunity to remix the entire album as their own project, which will be released digitally through HiPNOTT Records

@ Kevin, after you announce the winner you should release the top 10 remixes or so. I, and I’m sure other folks on the site, love to hear the differences in the mixes and styles – like the Jay-Z or LL remix comps.
That album has nice solid production on every track remixing it would be a bitch. Good luck to whoever wins.
I’m sure it would just be a nice long debate about who’s was the dopest if they released the top 10 or whatever…my guess is they are looking for a particular sound and don’t want anyone feeling left out or whatever even if their submission was good…

I understand that yes, there might be a long debate, but unlike other sites most posts on her are pretty civil as you can by looking at the other Remix comps. You know, it’s just to see other people’s stuff and to see if your stuff makes it into the top ten or not, ya know.

All the remixes are in… there are 46 total for us to listen to. It’s gonna be tough… there are a lot of great “beats” but very few cohesive remixes. A lot of acapellas off sync and many had problems with the chorus (off beat and off key). Those are just my initial critiques. There were some that didn’t have those problems at all.

wow, Roads and C.H., both of yours were actually pretty dope I thought. It’s funny how everyone has interpreted the acapella differently…when I listened to it the first couple times through I was like, “damn, Sparks went IN with alot of passion and energy” so I picked a beat I thought matched the same energy. Then everyone else does something more mellow but they still sound dope at the same time!! This is one of the great things about hip hop to me, the diversity!
