B.I.G. vs. Big L

B.I.G. is considered by many to be the Greatest Rapper of All Time, with two classic albums under his belt.  Big L dropped a classic album in 1995 and had a cult like following on the underground scene.  B.I.G. and Bad Boy Records had Hip-Hop and the radio/clubs on lock from 1994-1997.  Rumors had Big L on the verge of signing with Roc-A-Fella Records before his death.  Both were gunned down at the young age of 24.  Both murders are still unsolved.  B.I.G. and Big L had many things in common except sharing a track together.  I’m puzzled why these two lyrical giants never collaborated with each other as it would have made for a good discussion on who spit it better.

Since that collaboration doesn’t exist this Who Spit It Better drop will have to do!  Both Big L and B.I.G. spit over DeBarge‘s “Stay With Me” in 1995.  Big L‘s use of the sample appeared on his debut album, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous. B.I.G. used the sample for the remix of “One More Chance.”  Big L rides the smooth groove to let everyone know he is one of the best in the game.  B.I.G. dropped the ultimate players anthem, with his remix.  Both songs are dope in their own right, but B.I.G. is the clear winner for me.  Big Poppa created a party starter with that record along with loads of quotables.

Who you got?  Stream of songs and poll underneath.

Sick of that song and how it’s so long, thought he worked his till I handled my biz” No Bullshit I’ve heard both of the songs a grip of times I never caught that! Wuz that a subliminal shot to Big-L? You know that D.I.T.C. kinda had beef with Puffy over beat jacking going on with Puffy. Wow I never picked that up before, I know I ain’t losing it doe.
I still gotta give it to BIG doe, cuz damn he was the master at re-wrecking tracks, this man was about competition and brought it out hard. Big-L is probably the sickest to do it with punch lines but the slow flow BIG got is so melodic and Hypnotizing it edges out Big L’s edgy and fast flow. I hate to even have to judge I love both tracks!

“L’s a clever threat, a lyricist who never sweat / comparin’ yourself to me is like a benz to a chevrolet…”

Gotta say Big L on this one, I’ve been listening to his disc a lot lately and he never really got his due. Notorious was incredible on almost everything, but I feel like MVP is where it’s at. L didn’t have the budget, producers or the vocalists involved and his track is more raw. Big’s version is an R&B song … and all I can think of these days when I hear it is Ashanti’s remix version.

L had a solid production crew for his album: Finesse, Buckwild and Show. Probably only well know producers Big had was Moe Bee and Premier.

    Both songs are fire tho.

Both of em handled the joint nicely. Big L’s joint was a lot rougher, but Biggie’s was a lot smoother. Biggies joint had a much bigger impact on hip hop as a whole tho. I personally think Big L would be bigger than Jay is if he would have lived to this day, but Biggie would be bigger than both. That being said, Biggie spit it better IMO.

    is there any competition?

Big L – MVP all day everyday. Don’t get me wrong, BIG is one of the best, but Big L to me was the best to ever do it.

Only difference between the songs are the drums. They both used the sample part of the sample. B.I.G. had quotables for days on this joint. N.O.T.O….
