Phonte let loose the last track 9th Wonder produced for the group via Twitter a few minutes agoBased on the tags this might be an iTunes bonus track for Left Back dropping April 20.  This should make people happy as they hear the group over some 9th production for the last time.

Edit: Phonte just gave some  history regarding the song via Twitter.

Aiight folks, backstory on Star:

This was recorded back in ’05-06 at Young Guru’s crib sometime after the release of Minstrel Show.

This was intended for Leftback as an iTunes bonus track but we just got word today that @9thwondermusic doesn’t want us to use it for whatever reason, and that’s fine.

In any event, I’m not gonna let anything or anybody stop me from getting music to my fans. Fuck that.

Enjoy. And as always, thank you for listening

bin waitng for a 9th Wonder track for this LB album!!!

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

This is an interesting tibit of information. 9th won’t respond to this. I”m wondering if he already sold the beat? Oh well.

  • Renz

Hmmm, so 9th doesn’t want LB to use the track, but yet Phonte still leaks it on line? Something obvious went down between 9th and Phonte that we don’t know about, because Phonte clearly let it be known that 9th wasn’t involved anymore, but yet, we get this exclusive “oldie but goodie” track from from Phonte… Needless to say, I’ll add it to my version of Leftback as “my” bonus, LOL….

Cats can forget about any type of reunion down the road unless it’s an act of God or something. 9th and Phonte have a serious beef with each other. Not to the point where they would fight if they see each other, but they do not like each other AT ALL and do not speak to one another. I live in the triangle(Raleigh/Durham, NC) and when the Justus League has an event, if 9th is there Phonte will NOT show up and if Phonte is in the house you can bet that 9th will not be there. They each go out of the way to avoid each other and after talking to both camps neither side will elaborate on why this is. (th has moved on with his Jamla and Academy record labels and Phonte has clearly moved on from LB and is moving further away from hip-hop altogether with his Foreign Exchange music. I hate to disappoint the fans but that reunion is never going to happen. Why do you guys think that LB is disbanding despite still dropping quality music. Phonte is all but done with rap. Other than features here and there and MAYBE a few joints when he decides to drop a solo joint, but Tigallo has officially gone Andre 3000 folks.

^ ^ i thought i remember phonte saying in a recent interview that he does plan on dropping a solo album sometime within the next year and while it would combine both singing and rapping, it would lean more towards the rapping side.

other than that, this track is dope. its a shame how this all evolved for these guys but i guess it is what it is.

I hear ya Dre J, it just dissapoints me as fan of the group, but as a “man”, I completely understand. Cats just decided to go their own separate ways and evolve, and that’s perfectly normal. I guess the semi nosey side of me really wants to know what went down for these two dudes to not even want to interact with each other. One thing I’m noticing is that Pooh doesn’t really say ANYTHING about the sitaution(well if he did, I haven’t heard), it’s mainly Phonte. Anyway, I wish all 3 of these cats nuthin but success, because I’m a fan of Pooh, Phonte, and 9th, so I’ll support everything these dudes are behind…

you can forget a reunion now because 9th and phonte are currently arguing on twitter

  • http://kevin ryan

well the issue on twitter is 9th felt like the group should have a reunion after the death of a dude named Baatin. But then when Phonte wanted to use “star” as a itunes bonus track 9th basically shot that down by saying they couldn’t do that. So Phonte being the real dude that he is basically got pissed all over again at 9th.

So no reunion as we all know but it just seems to me that producers are some shady as dudes when they get some light on their career (Premier, Pete Rock, J Dilla and now 9th)

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

Well, lets be fair to 9th now. Here’s his answer that http://twitter.com/9thWonderMusic/status/11163614697

  • http://kevin ryan

“RT @natthedem Normally, I wouldn’t be bothered by 9th withholding a beat, but after his statement following Baatin’s death, he looks shady”

said by a close friend of the group i assume

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

I doubt http://twitter.com/natthedem is a close friend of LB.

  • http://kevin ryan

    ^^^yea you right

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

f the drama…what’s the sample for the song?

  • Jason

damn i hate to see this
these two cats (and pooh) are too much of class acts to let their dirty laundry air out over the net like that, disappointing.

i don’t know whether i want 9th to do a reply – but the less hype/hoo-har over this the better i think. shed a bad light on the lot of them!

in listening to tay – how much i respect him and even though he’s my favourite rapper – you gotta keep in mind theres always two sides to a story
