I heard Cooley High when I was 14..that right there made me a fan. It was so different from everything else at the time. With time,I slowly started collecting anything that had Camp Lo on it!! Y’all remember the Will Smith song-Yes yes y’all(solely on the strength of the chorus by Sonny Cheeba) and the Kid Capri Sdtrk To the Streets Freestyle?. anywhoo Uptown Saturday night is a 5mic album IMO!! dope beats…fresh rhymes..need I say more??
Oh yeah..the remixes were off the chain too..I think Jocko’s original version became a remix and Cooley High(Paradise remix) is BRILLIANT!!
Trivia:the original sampled Janet and the remix sampled Michael

Great interview. This is my favorite album of ’97. Very original. I heard that the “Feelin’ It” beat by Jay-Z was originally for Camp Lo. Both extremely dope.

much respect where its due. you guys do a great job. im not trying to jam these recommendations down your throat….there are tons and tons of albums that slip through the cracks…these two for example i have never seen a full detailed review. I understand you cant review every single ablum because then visitors would be suggesting slept on albums every day. i just wanted to throw that out there. i have faith in your guys picks. keep doin your thing. peace

i just wanted to give major props to kevin nottingham and the entire staff….this is one of my all time favorite albums. much respect as many other so called hip hop sites prolly have never even heard of this album and many others that you guys have write ups on. your features including the interviews, anniversaries and forgotten classics sections are absolutely incredible. you guys really are the leading authority when it comes to hip hop music. major props on the site. keep up the good work. i look forward to more of your honest reviews and editorials.

i still love that album. the bar was set so high that unfortunately camp lo never reach the same level on any of the projects after that one. there was something bout that album as a whole that was jus so unique…
