It’s only fitting Masta Ace and Ed O.G. battle today as they just released their joint project Arts & Entertainment on Tuesday of this week. The Juice Crew alumnus vs the Boston vet. New York vs Boston.
The idea behind Freestyle Fridays is to battle one another with your favorite verse from either of the two competitors. You’re essentially battling other commenters in this thread by using the words of Masta Ace or Ed O.G.. Hit the jump for a few rules and then jump in on the comments!
Before we start, let’s see if we can keep the thread in order today, by following a couple simple rules:
DJ Premier hooked up with Christina Aguilera in 2006 for her Back to Basic double disc LP. I think the production from Premier was vintage Preem (i.e., “Intro (Back to Basics)” and “Back in the Day”), but some poppy’ish Premier as well (see “Ain’t No Other Man”).
Dope stuff nevertheless….hit the cut for the info and links (ALT included).
Sha Stimuli is interviewed by Boss Lady from DJ Jay’s,where he talks about his album among other things. Sha’s dope album My Soul To Keep [buy] dropped last week and contains lyrics for days.
I peeped the following videos last night and am late getting them up. Sha is interviewed at the Chamber Musik office and talks about his beginning in Hip Hop, interning at Roc-A-Fella records, his deal with Virgin, Jay-Z/Def Jam, the current state of Hip-Hop, and a “freestyle” in the last video.
Part 1 of the video is up first followed by part 2, 3, ….
This is official ish right here…..Tha Blaqprint [read review] instrumentals. Calling all emcees. If you want to emcee over 13 original, high quality DJ Premier beats hit the cut.
Came across this video of Mos Def reciting Black Thought’s verse from “75 Bars,” which appeared on The Roots album, Rising Down [read review]. This apparently took place during the taping of the BET ciphers.
This week it’s the Juice Crew members going head to head. When I was growing up the talk was who had the better verse on “The Symphony”Big Daddy Kane or Kool G Rap? Today we are going to decide who had the better verse on that song and highlight other gems throughout their careers.

Dot Got It drops this tape with some pretty good names attached to it (Rashee Hadee, Señor Kaos, Cymarshall Law). However, the biggest name attached to the project is the homie S.T.T.R.E.S.S., he produces the intro to the project. So just off of that it’s a must download.
Hit the cut for the tracklist and link. Spotted at Dot Got it.
The BET Hip-Hop awards aired last night. Here is what most people are talking about….the Ciphers with DJ Premier on the 1’s and 2’s. Up first is Nicki Minaj, Buckshot, Crown Royyal, and Joe Budden. Joey is insane on this one.
Part 2 is ok and well….part 3 is the ish. Tariq is so underrated.
Not the Blaq Poet set I promised last week, but this should make up for it!? “Dirty Game” is a Preem produced track that appeared on My Brother’s Keeper by Lake featuring Cormega in 2006, but appears on Mega’s recently released Born and Raised album.
Former Scratch Editor Jerry Barrow interviews Producer/MC Oddisee about his new group project Diamond District. The retail version of In the Ruff drops on 10/27. Will probably have to order this one offline as well.
