I know we have been pushing the HiPNOTT 2010 Takeover for the past few months… and I ain’t just talking about the mixtapes — it’s a movement. We started the top of the year pushing Cymarshall Law and his Creator’s Kid EP. more recently you’ve been hearing a lot from K. Sparks and A Day In the Life. Earlier today we announced our whole lineup for 2010… peep it if you missed it. For the next month we’re going to be steadily pushing our next project: Almost Famous by Spectac & Amiri. The album doesn’t drop for another month, but this Monday we’ll be releasing the first single from the duo.
As I’m sitting here going through some of their footage to prep for promo, I came across a couple of freestyle videos that Spectac just did last year. The one above was done on a radio show where the DJ just gave Spec flash cards to rhyme about… insane! After the cut, you’ll see Spectac opening for KRS-One at a show in North Carolina. The whole cut is freestyle. I just had to share these to give you all a taste of the talent we’re working with at HiPNOTT Records. If you all aren’t familiar with Spectac, check the exclusive interview on him we did a couple of years ago when we dropped his album with 9th wonder, Corner of Spec & 9th [download] (a classic album if you haven’t checked it yet). The new album is crazy as well. Amiri’s beats are something that I think a lot of you all are going to dig.

Truth Universal is set to drop his new project Guerrilla Business next Tuesday and here’s a sample of what to expect. The project will be available on all digital outlets as well as physical copies through TU’s own website. Hit the jump for the sampler & make sure you cop the new record next week!

The homie John Public lets loose another track from his upcoming project with NahRight. We also get a glimpe at the album artwork, designed by yours truly!
“…This track was both incredible and a gigantic pain in the ass to make. I got the original sequence from Goodwill Beats and spent literally months refining the flow. When I finally got it recorded at Willow Street, the engineer (Dave Entwistle) layered some guitars and we jacked Hendrix’s riff from “Purple Haze” as the lead melody, thinking it was a wrap. Numerous spins later tho, it felt too busy, so we stripped out the lead melody bells (which also had the original bassline in it). I sent it with just the drums, vox and flutes to my homie Jordan Scannella, and he laid a new bassline, added some Rhodes and piano stabs. Then I hit up DJay Cas to sequence some new drums. This joint was inspired by the Sensationalist Journalism episode. I think the third verse is pretty awesome.” -John Public
Man, I apologize for the site loading slow as ass today. Looks like we’re about back to normal, so let’s get some goodies posted!
