As Beat*Society & DJ K.O. get closer to releasing “Picture These Remixes”, they’ve teamed to give up and coming producers one more chance to get on the project with the “Ladder of Success” Remix Contest. Here’s what DJ K.O. had to say about the song and opportunity…
“This track was the first song completed for my album “Picture This” way back in 2006. The idea for the song came about while sitting at a bar with Analogic (who produced the original track). We were plotting on how to make an entrance into the game. Somehow we got on the topic of ill emcees and started talking about Phonte, Masta Ace & Wordsworth. At that point in time, Tay and Ace had never been on a song before. We thought it would be really dope to hear them all together. Next thing I know I have three ill verses on the struggles of trying to climb the “Ladder of Success” in the game…but no hook. Picked up the horn and hit up my man K-Hill to see if he could come up with something. Next thing I know I’ve got a hook….PLUS 20 bars from yet another perspective on trying to come up in the game.”
KevinNottingham.com, in conjunction with Cornerstone Digital Marketing, is giving 2 lucky readers a free copy of the soundtrack and score to the upcoming Blaxploitation spoof Black Dynamite… in theaters now! These two CDs together are close to a $30 value. For details and tracklisting, check here and here and watch a brief documentary on the music above.

June 25, 2009 was a sad day for a lot of us. Michael Jackson had passed at the age of 50, just two months shy of his birthday. There were a ton of tributes going around for the King of Pop and everywhere you went, you heard Michael Jackson music playing in the street, in the clubs, or in the car next to you at the stop light.
To help ease the pain suffered from members here on the site, we held a beat contest. Producers came from everywhere to sample their favorite MJ song and to help pay tribute.
Today we celebrate the birth of Michael Jackson; he would have been 51. Out of the hundreds of beats that were submitted, we narrowed it down to the best 25. Then I let me man DJ Grain go to town, mix them and put his spin on it. Grab the mix after the cut. As a bonus, I’ve included a download of all the winning beats, unmixed.
With Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 set for release this year, it was only right that we pay tribute to the original 2001 classic in our latest remix contest. For 14 weeks, producers from around the globe showed up a KevinNottingham.com to take a stab at remixing The Blueprint. But this isn’t just any old remix album. We stuck to the original formula by using the original samples that were used in Jay’s 2001 classic. So each track, though different from the original, still has a familar feeling.
The purpose of this remixtape is not to try and outdo the original, but to pay tribute and give it a new light. The winning remixes are compiled here in The Blueprint Reconstructed and I firmly believe that this project is just as good as the original.
Thank you to all the producers who showed up week after week and shared your hard work and talent with us. A special shout out goes to my fellow judges, DJ BlacqueStarr and Thomas, who spent hours listening to an average of 40+ remixes each week. Hit the jump for the full artwork (designed by me), the tracklist/credits, and link…

Yeah, I know I’m late on this… been pretty busy lately, but better late than never. I had some free time today to finish going through these and a few of you keep asking, so I figure I should get it out of the way. What a way to finish a remix contest though! “Lyrical Excercise” was the perfect ending to our 14 week long Blueprint remix contest. Lots of great remixes submitted, but there can be only one winner. The winner, of course, will be included in our Blueprint 2009 Remixtape which I hope to drop before the end of the month, if I can get the graphics squared away.
