Most Ridiculous Sample: Game Edition

Late last week, Game let loose off his new single “Red Nation” which has been a trigger to discussions on the net. The track, produced by Game’s go-to beat-smiths Cool & Dre, samples the techno tune “Kernkraft 400” (German for “nuclear energy 400”; that fact alone leaves a bitter taste these days) by Zombie Nation. The song from 1999, instantly became an underground hit in European clubs and the “Sport Chant Remix” is often used at North American sporting events as a celebratory or motivational theme.

Let’s face it. Game needs a hit single otherwise he won’t get the green light from Jimmy Iovine to finally release his oft delayed RED Album. So what would be better than a Lil Wayne feature and a hit sample? Should the track get our “most ridiculous sample stamp”? Compare both tracks below and watch Zombie Nation’s video to “Kernkraft 400” after the jump.

It’s the end of the year and Ghostface Killah releases another dope album. It’s a shame Starks isn’t receiving much promotion for the album as he has another solid album in his impressive discography. If you’re a Ghostface fan you’ll be glad to know all of the prerequisites for a GFK album are present: razor sharp lyrics, Clan features, and soulful production. There are eleven samples in the set with all but one coming from the linear notes. Shout to the folks at the The Breaks for the “Black Tequila” find. No tracklist for the set just hit the jump for the link.

Sidenote: I think Def Jam screwed up the listing for “Street Bullies” because it doesn’t sound like the J.J. Barnes song credited. Wouldn’t be the first time though. Let me know what yall think.

Yeeeah Baby: Original Samples

Yeeeah Baby was released in April 2000 after Pun‘s death in February 2000. The album featured his Terror Squad cohorts in addition to M.O.P., Drag-On, and Donell Jones. Production was handled by Just Blaze, Buckwild, Minnesota, Younglord, Mahogany, Minnesota, L.E.S., Al West, Sean C, and others.

All the samples were included in the linear notes with a few listed on The Breaks. I’m missing one that’s an interpolation of “2 Hype” written by Eric Smith and Eric McCaine. If anyone can name the artist or find the song I’ll re-up the set.

The Bridge: Original Samples

For our first R&B related sample set we present the lovely Melanie Fiona and her debut album The Bridge. The Canadian born singer and her team of producers put together a great album that fused some soul, contemporary R&B, and reggae throughout the album; the mix of sounds are prevalent.

There are only nine songs contained in this set, but nine samples that haven’t been included in other sets we’ve completed. Link is down bottom.

Blaqprint: Original Samples

We skipped DJ Premier Wednesday last week as we were having server issues. This post should make up for it! Blaq Poet dropped his latest release on DJ Premier‘s Year Round Records in June of this year. The album is produced entirely by Premier sans two tracks. The set more than likely isn’t complete as we are missing sample sources for a few songs. However, when it comes to a Premier produced album is it really complete? Not really unless all of the scratched vocals, samples (main and drums), and little sounds have been identified. We’ve done our best!

All Samples Cleared: Original Samples

I think a lot of people miss understood what I posted earlier this week about our sample sets. A lot of people thought that we were deleting all that was previously posted and not going to be compiling any more sets. Well, this post here is to prove that wrong. I think for our future posts though, we will not list the sample credits. If you wanna know a sample, you’ll have to download the compilation. That should make it a little harder for people just browsing the site looking for someone to sue.

But, what better way to bring back the sample sets! Biz Markie‘s All Samples Cleared is a classic among classics. We’ll have an article later on today from our site’s legal representative, Pedro, but for now enjoy the samples from this 1993 album, which are reportedly “all cleared.” You’ll definitely want this set in your collection just for the fact that 5 different versions of “Get Out of My Life Woman” were used.

Carnage: Original Samples

Chaundon, the Bronx born/bred rapper and Hall of Justus member dropped his debut album Carnage on the Indie label Defend. Chaundon enlisted 9th Wonder, Illmind, Khrysis, D1, Foolery, and Analogic to handle the boards. Guest include Sha Stimuli, Torae, Skyzoo, Sean Price, MaG, and others.

The set is incomplete as we all know 9th, Illmind, and Khrysis sample heavy. However, I’ve been slacking on the sets lately and wanted to clear this out my “incomplete folder” [see month of samples]. Plus, the soulfulness of Teddy P, Anita Ward, and Dexter Wansel should hold you all over until we id the rest of the songs.

Attention Deficit: Original Samples

Olubowale Akintimehin Folarin aka Wale dropped his solid debut album Attention Deficit this past Tuesday (11/10). The feedback on the internet has been mostly positive from what I’ve seen with some disappointed fans here and there. This post isn’t about the review of the album (read review), but the samples.

The set is more than likely incomplete as all of these samples come from the linear notes and we know complete sample listing are rarely indicated in linear notes. The sample plays good together from the classic Kool and the Gang jam “Summer Madness” to often used Spinners track from The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh soundtrack.
