Fifteen weeks strong of DJ Premier Wednesday. I’m going to keep it short as this week’s sample comes from The Lox sophomore album, We Are the Streets. Premier is a genius as the chop is masterful and Jadakiss sounds great over his production.

NYG’z were the first act signed to DJ Premier’s Year Round Records dropping their debut album in 2007. The group consist of Shabeeno (aka Shiggy Sha) and Panchi and have been down with Premier/Gang Starr since 95; making appearances on Moment of Truth and The Ownerz. Premier produced the title track to the album that has that knock to it, but a smooth groove at the same time.

DJ Premier hooked up with Christina Aguilera in 2006 for her Back to Basic double disc LP. I think the production from Premier was vintage Preem (i.e., “Intro (Back to Basics)” and “Back in the Day”), but some poppy’ish Premier as well (see “Ain’t No Other Man”).

Not the Blaq Poet set I promised last week, but this should make up for it!? “Dirty Game” is a Preem produced track that appeared on My Brother’s Keeper by Lake featuring Cormega in 2006, but appears on Mega’s recently released Born and Raised album.
