After the single “Keep Movin” featuring Sean P. exploded all over the Internet just last week, HiPNOTT Records follows up with a preview sampler of the album it was leaked from, A Day in the Lifeby K. Sparks produced by G.C. mixed by the label’s in-house DJ, DJ Mark 1. The album will drop on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 and will be available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon.com, and other major outlets.
A Day in the Lifeis a fitting title for this conceptual project, which was recorded in just one day’s time. Listeners are taken from the beginning to end of a typical day in Sparks’ life. The album is an exploration into all aspects of the artist’s identity, a reveal he faces in an intimate and emotionally supercharged way. Sparks provides the A Day in the Life tour using inventive wordplay, internal rhyming, battle raps, storytelling and eye-widening punch-lines. Equally integral to the project, producer G.C. has master-crafted a backdrop for Sparks that glows with rich instrumentation and a comforting jazziness, while still maintaining a raw, boom-bap vibe overall.
Even though half the album has already leaked as singles, Statik Selektah’s 100 Proof has me shaking with anticipation. This IS my #1 most anticipated album of 2010 and believe it or not, I haven’t even listened to a single leak. Nope, I wanna take the album in as a whole. Complex Magazine had the honor of getting an inside peak to the album with Statik himself. Head on over to read what Statik says about all 17 tracks from 100 Proof. The album drops this Tuesday, February 2!
Being a triple threat for an artist is a requirement as opposed to a unique gift that some have. Rather you are a recording artist, actor, or fashion guru, you must have three solid talents to survive the entertainment landscape. Some pull it off flawlessly (Mos Def) while others do more damage (50 Cent…have you seen his acting skills or lack thereof?) Nevertheless, when a new “triple threat” comes out, we are eager to praise them for being inhumanly talented or slam them for being greedy with fame.
Been so busy today, I hadn’t gotten a chance to get my girl Dasha’s latest video online. This is the last video… song #1 of her Top 10 countdown to Back 2 The Future, her debut mixtape that will be dropping tomorrow (which is sooner than you think). Dasha’s favorite song from the mixtape (song #1) is… I’m not gonna ruin it, check the video. It’s one of my favs too!
Dasha’s mixtape of remakes and remixes is almost here and today she unveils her second favorite track from the mixtape, Back 2 The Future. Check the video to see what Dasha does with Biggie’s “10 Crack Commandments.” She has a few commandments of her own!
Back 2 The Future: Remakes & Remixes, Vol 1 dropping November 14!
I don’t know about you, but I have really been enjoying these daily video blogs from our girl Dasha. After Saturday I feel like something will be missing in my life! Hope you all are enjoying these as much as I have been. We are on #3 of Dasha’s Top 10 countdown of her favorite tracks from her upcoming mixtape, Back 2 The Future: Remakes & Remixes Vol 1. Her #3 is actually my #1 from the mixtape… Mos Def’s “Umi Says.” All I have to say about this record is that Dasha BODIES this track. Peep it for yourself!

Back 2 The Future: Remakes & Remixes, Vol 1 dropping November 14th!
We are only 5 days away from Dasha’s mixtape, Back 2 The Future: Remakes & Remixes Vol 1. On Day 6 of Dasha’s countdown, she gives us a glimpse of her version of Twista’s “Wetter”. Certified baby making music right here!
It’s Day 5 of Dasha’s Back 2 The Future countdown of her favorite songs from the forthcoming mixtape. We are only 6 days away from the 23 track mixtape release on November 14th! On Day 5, Dasha introduces us to her version of Kanye West’s “Golddigger.” She tells us that she ain’t necessarily looking for a man with money, but he’s definitely gotta hold his own. Before she gets into the track, she takes a moment to address the haters over in the comments at 2DopeBoyz. Nothing against 2DB, but comments like those show how immature their fan base is… and that’s all I’m gonna say on that.
If you’re in the L.A. area, feel free to drop by Dasha’s mixtape release party this Saturday, November 14th! Location and details after the cut…
Song number 7 of Dasha’s favorite songs from her upcoming mixtape, Back 2 The Future, is one of few Kanye West inspired tracks on the mixtape. Dasha really makes this one her own as she goes in over “Love Lockdown.” Watch Dasha as she explains the concept of the song and describes a bit of her persona. Back 2 The Future: Remakes & REmixes Vol 1 coming November 14th!
We had some server issues yesterday and I couldn’t get this one posted. Day 4 coming up in a bit!
As we get closer to the release of Dasha’s Back 2 The Future mixtape, she introduces us to her #8 favorite song… her version of Lil Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer.” Watch out guys… this song is NOT rated PG! If you’re not anticipating this mixtape after hearing this, I don’t know how to help you.
Nine more days until we unleash Dasha’s first mixtape, Back 2 The Future: Remakes & Remixes Vol 1. On Day 2 of Dasha’s countdown to the premiere, she tells us about the inspiration behind her song over T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe It.” Look forward to hearing more from Dasha everyday until November 14th!
Alright…. I told you all HiPNOTT Records is doing it up big this month and in the famous words of my man Diddy, “we won’t stop, cuz we can’t stop!” We have 10 full days until the first full length release from HiPNOTT’s First Lady, Dasha. The mixtape, mixed by DJ Mark-1, is called Back 2 The Future: Remakes & Remixes Vol 1 and is comprised of remakes of some of Dasha’s favorite hip hop songs.
Each day up until the release of the project, Dasha is going to give us a video blog counting down her favorite tracks. This will let you get to know a bit about Dasha and will let you preview a bit of the mixtape before it drops. So check it out!
Every now and then there is an artist/group or album that REALLY catches my attention and I like to put the spotlight on them for a sec on the site. I gotta thank my man Jonathan for turning me on to this 4 member group out of NYC… DXA. I’ve been playing their album, Progression, non-stop since I got a hold of it a few weeks ago. The album actually dropped a year ago in August 2008, so allow me to take a late pass, but if you have yet to hear it grab your pass here and take a listen after the cut. If you’re into that 90s NY Boom Bap, as well as dope lyricism, I guarantee you will not be disappointed!
