wale-urb-new-era-cap-1

A few of you mentioned in our Most Anticipated 4th Quarter Releases post that you were eagerly awaiting the debut album from DMV artist Wale. The album doesn’t come out until September 22nd, but executive producer Mark Ronson recently held a listening session and Rap-Up.com was there to give us their take on the album. No audio associated here, but it’s cool to read what we can expected to hear. Check it after the cut…. by the way, where’s “Chillin”?

For those of you that are a fan of Timbaland and the whole Mosley Music Group movement, do I have a treat for you! If you’ve followed Tim’s career over the years, you may know that he has a brother by the name of Sebastian. Sebastian was featured on countless Timbaland & Magoo tracks back in the day and was most recently featured on Timbland’s hit “The Way I Are” with Keri Hilson and DOE.

Sebastian hit me up tonight on twitter (I fucking love Twitter) and told me about the new album he has coming out. In fact, they recorded the album listening party (above), so you can hear some of the heat that’s about to go down. The first track “Wobbley” is the lead single for the album and no it was not produced by Timbaland. Wizz Dumb is the producer responsible for the 90s Timbaland sound, although Tim himself is overseeing the whole project.

A lot of you may know that I grew up in Virginia Beach and I love seeing my hometown peeps get their shine. This album is a long time coming from Sebastian and I think he’s seriously about to give the clubs that hip hop that they’ve been missing.

dnots

A lot of people have been asking about this and though I’m not up on the know, we do have access to listen to the album in its entirety online via npr.org. But first, here is a quick overview of the project, courtesy of TheUrbanKerouac:

After teasing indie electro nerds at SXSW with a parade of mysterious movie posters sporting David Lynch’s insignia, Danger Mouse and Singer/Multi-Instrumentalist Mark Linkous (of Sparklehorse) revealed to the world that they were working on an exciting collaboration project featuring some of indie rock’s most celebrated musicians, such as: Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), James Mercer (The Shins), Julian Casablancas (The Strokes), Iggy Pop, and more.

Dark Night of the Soul was written by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, though the myriad of singers featured on each track also had a big hand in composing and producing the work. The album was initially going to be packaged with a book of photos taken by David Lynch, but now there’s word that the music may never be officially released at all.

An unnamed spokesperson for Danger Mouse says that “due to an ongoing dispute with EMI” the book of photographs will “now come with a blank, recordable CD-R. All copies will be clearly labeled: ‘For legal reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.’”

You can order the book from their official website here.

Thanks to the good people at NahRight.com, we have a full album preview of Philadelphia Freeway 2 via Imeem. I think more artists should do this to try to get ahead of the album leak game. Not sure if it would help or not, but it’d be worth a try. Hit the jump to listen to the album…
