Some people love hip hop for the lyrics, some people just really dig the beats. That’s me… I dig the beats. I love knowing what goes in to make a beat, the whole science of it all. So when I see a documentary like this, man I eat it up! The following 30 minute documentary goes into the art form of beat diggin. Diamond D (D.I.T.C.), Mr. Waltz (Beatminerz), Showbiz (D.I.T.C.), Evil D (Beatminerz) show us how it’s done… how to walk into a mom and pop record store and find that gem to make that perfect beat. Special appearances by Common, Mos Def, and Royal Flush. Major props to J Rizzle for sending this my way. Check it after the cut…
Caught this over at YN’s spot. Who knows… could be opportunity knocking?

Since we deal with a lot of music production on the site, I had to share this this with you all. It’s a computer program called Photosounder. Photosounder is a new and innovative sound editing and synthesis tool that allows you to edit sound in powerful new ways by turning the entire sound into an image that accurately describes all of the sound’s features.
Check the video above and hear how they isolated an instrument from The Ohio Players’ “Funky Worm”. This is simply amazing! I’ve never in my life seen or heard of this done before, at least as cleanly as it is heard here. And this was all done using only Photosounder and Photoshop, by capturing an image of the audio and erasing sounds in Photoshop. Then replaying that image in Photosounder. This new technology is bound to break new strides in sampling and can probably be used to remove vocals to create high quality instrumentals or acapellas!
Man man DJ Chew hit me up to host this hot new mixtape that he’s helping put together, but we need beats! DJ Chew is helping set up the project and doin the graphic work. All beats will be used only for promo use and no money will be made off the cd. All production credits will be credited in the tracklisting of the cd to help promote each producer. Any questions, contact DJ Chew.
Thanks to MIDIMarc for coming through with another nice drum kit. Today’s gonna be a slow day; got things to do, but I had to get something up for the producers to play with today. Enjoy!
This new series seems to be a hit with the producers on the site, so we’re gonna keep giving up the goodies. This kit comes courtesy of One Mic. Apparently, the MPC-60 was used heavily in late 80s / early 90s hip hop production. I’m not gonna front like I know this equipment, so you can read up on it here.
Brand new feature here on the site! We know who are audience is and we know what you want. From time to time, we’re gonna start posting drum kits, sounds, and samples for all the producers out there trying to get their game on. The first drum kit in this new series comes courtesey of MIDIMarc. He wanted to share one of his most coveted drum kits with all the producers here on the site. I’ve got a ton more that I’ll be putting up over time. If you got a drum kit you want to share, send a link my way. Just please don’t flood the comments with links to kits.
