I’d like to take a brief moment and welcome Ben and Justin to KevinNottingham.com as our summer interns. The other day I put up a help wanted ad and received a ton of response from people willing to help out. It was a tough choice, but I ultimately decided to take on two helpers. Please don’t take it personal if i did not chose you; there may be more opportunities down the road and I will keep those that applied in mind. Ben and Justin are gonna be helping out with the day to day postings on the site so that I can concentrate on other things. But make no mistake, this will not change the structure of the site in anyway. I still have full authority over what gets posted to the site. I now just have some help posting it. Hopefully this will free up my time to give you all more in depth articles and concentrate on things such as sample sets, interviews and planning artist weeks.
To Justin and Ben, I thank you for coming on board and giving us a hand… and don’t ask what the above image is all about. I just did a search for “something cool” and this is what popped up… haha. As the KevinNottingham.com family grows, only good things are bound to come out of this!
So I figure to help alleviate some of the load I have right now, asking for help seems like a pretty good idea. I have more than enough content for the site, but no time to post it. So consider this a “Help Wanted” ad. I’ve gotten a few offers from people willing to help, but I need someone with some experience. This update is for our loyal readers as I feel I need to keep you all updated whenever things are running a little differently around here. You may have noticed that there have been fewer updates this week. I don’t really konw how to explain without getting too personal, but I’m at a point where I need to refocus some priorities in life. The site is still gonna be here… I’m not going anywhere, but my time online is being cut drastically. For now anyway. Though the site and all of you bring me joy everyday, it does not put food on my table (like my job), nor does it provide comfort (like my family). With that said, updates will be sparse for a while, at least until I can figure out how to juggle things evenly. I will not be able to post everyone’s requests nor will I be able to answer everyone’s emails. Right now I know I am behind at getting last week’s remix contest entries up and I have about 15-20 interviews waiting to be posted as well. I just ask everyone to be patient as I try to sort things out.

Looks like overnight the site came back online. I was up last night with the technical suport guys trying to figure out what the hell went on. The way they explained it at first, it sounded like I wouldn’t be able to put the site back up unless I rebuilt it from scratch. So I sent a mass email out to tell everyone that the site would be gone until further notice. Some of you may be just no getting that email, checking the site and saying, “what’s he talking about, it’s online now!” lol Well, for now anyway.
Looks like the culprit of our server overload was a Wordpress plugin. I’m still not sure which plugin it was, so a lot of unessential plugins have been disabled. I have a feeling it may have been the flash widget that used to sit up at the top of the site. At any rate, we’re back online for now. I’m gonna take some time to day to update content and get us going again. Hopefully the problem has been contained and we can move on like normal!
If you’re seeing this message, then the site transfer was successful! Hopefully everything is working normal. The site should be a lot faster. There may be a few links broken and images missing, but I’ll make sure everything is good before I start posting again. If you’ve found a problem, leave a comment here and I’ll check it out. I’m taking the liberty of blogging about this since “Lil Kim” was the number one searched phrase on our site today. I noticed this when I saw a post from over a year ago about our Lil Kim remix week pop up in our featured articles widget. I can only assume that people are looking for Lil Kim’s “wardrobe malfunction” that happened last night on Dancing With The Stars. I for one, do not watch the show, nor did I know Lil Kim was on it. But I found the footage you all are looking for and you can see it after the jump.
If you’ve been a reader of the site for some time, you may remember a controversial article posted a little over a year ago called All Samples Are NOT Cleared. A year later, that article is still one of the most talked about posts on this site. To fill in those that are in the dark, we posted a sample set to Madvillain’s Madvillainy (great set btw). Not even days after the set was posted, I get a MySpace message from Quasimoto asking that the set be removed, saying that these sets are not good for hip-hop. This is where the fun began. To this day I don’t know what was more controversial, the fact that someone at Stones Throw asked that the set be taken down, or the fact that I complied.
Man, I’m never taking a vacation again… lol. Not only did I have a ton of stuff backed up when I got back (which I’m still going through a week later), but I miss out on Phonte and Nicolay coming to town! I just can’t win…. check part two of the video after the cut.
