Smoke DZA: On The Corner (feat. Bun B & Big K.R.I.T.)

Smoke DZA kicks it into overdrive and proves once again that he can’t be grounded with the release of his forthcoming album, “Rolling Stoned.” Since the success of 2010’s awe-inspiring mixtape, “George Kush Da Button: The Deluxe Edition,” Smoke has moved his brand across the country, rolling through city-after-city and joint-after-joint. In between tours with Wiz Khalifa and performances with J. Cole, DZA made his presence felt in 37 cities on the Smoker’s Club Tour alongside Curren$y, Nipsey Hussle, Dom Kennedy and Mac Miller, in addition to the nationwide Return Of 4Eva tour with Big K.R.I.T. and Freddie Gibbs. Smoke continued to spark the interest of listeners on collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Freddie Gibbs, Devin The Dude, Big K.R.I.T., Kidz In The Hall, Domo Genesis (Odd Future) and many more.

Black Milk posted snippets to his forthcoming album, Album of the Year on his website as he didn’t approve of the sound quality Amazon.com had up. I haven’t listened to these (and probably won’t) since the album is shipping at the end of the week. The album can be pre-order from Fat Beats (which ships this Friday) or directly from Black Milk‘s website.

Kanye West: Monster (feat. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj & Bon Iver)

Kanye tweeted this week he will be releasing a new song every Friday until Christmas, dubbing it G.O.O.D. Friday. “Monster” is the first leaked track from “G.O.O.D. Friday,” which features Jay, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and singer Bon Iver. “Monster” is suppose to be one of five songs from an EP by Ye and Jay-Z, entitled Watch the Throne dropping sometime this year. Artist say a lot of stuff so we’ll see if this comes to fruition since Ye‘s still untitled 5th studio album comes out in November. The EP may be real (and will see the light of day) after all….peep HERE.

Young Chris should be dropping his Network 2 mixtape in the near future. Before that drops he has been busy releasing tracks to wet the appetites of his fans. “American Champion” finds him and Freeway flexing their skills over a piano laced track. Chris and J. Cole throw up their Roc signs on “Still the Hottest” and “Think About It” reconnects Young Gunner and Chad Wes.

I’m uncertain if any of these songs will be on The Network 2, but I labeled them as such.

Justin’s top10 emcee of 2009 is on fire to start 2010. Bun B has three projects (mixtape and album) coming out this year; Trill OG (March), No Mixtape, and The Naked Soul of Sweet James Jones. Mr. J. Medeiros: The Art Of Broken Glass EP

From the uplifting and soulful “Love Is All” through the funky horn stabs of “Broken Windows,” The Art of Broken Glass is a much more traditional hip-hop release from Mr. J. Medeiros, formerly of the Procussions. As he said himself, it’s a gritty, dusty, and unpolished collection of tracks. But don’t get it twisted – this is anything but your typical hip-hop EP. Instead, it builds on Medeiros‘s style as it injects progression into the genre’s boom-bap roots. He also continues to flex his storytelling skills, which continue to expand and impress, on “The Measure.”

The Art of Broken Glass is solely produced by Boonie Mayfield, who laces the EP with jazzy, head-nodding beats. The EP features the gorgeous vocals of Tara Ellis on “Love Is All” while Jonathan Korsyzk’ adds somber tones to the hook of “The Measure.” Also featured is DJ Inka One, who cuts up the chorus for “Broken Windows.”

In honor of Freestyle Friday, I just had to post this crazy youtube video that I found of Eminem and Proof killing the freestyle with ease. The “freestyle” is starting to go the way of dinosaur. By saying this I mean that a lot of folks will write a flow down memorize it and kick it like it is fresh off the dome. Now indeed it can be dope, but it is the not the art of “freestyle” in its truest form. Sadly, several premier artists have admitted to being guilty of writing their verses before going in the booth and supposedly freestyling. I have to take time out to salute the folks that still value the art of freestylin’ and also the memory of the late great Proof from the D.
