This Saturday in New Orleans, we’ll be presenting (along with BlackSmith Music & The Soundclash) The Kicks & Snares event at The Howlin Wolf. The event will feature plenty of live performances along with live graffiti, break dancing, battling & a sneaker exchange. All the elements of hip hop will be in full effect & to top that off, the legendary Pete Rock will be there as well! Later that night will be the March SoundClash which Pete will also be judging. I had the privilege of getting out Friday night to check out a show a couple of hours north of me. When Toki Wright told me he was stopping through Lake Worth, I knew I had to check him out. We rarely get any good hip hop shows in South Florida, plus Toki’s LP, A Different Mirror, is one of my fav albums from last year so it was a no brainer. I want to thank Toki for inviting us up and hanging out prior to the show. It was a really good time. As for Toki’s performance… AMAZING. Toki Wright lives and breathes hip hop and he made certain that he portrayed that Friday night. But enough talk… hit the jump to check clips from the show!

Cymarshall Law is taking his new release Creator’s Kid EP (HiPNOTT Records) to the stage as he tours the Eastern region of the United States throughout the month of February. He kicks off and closes the tour in his hometown of New Brunswick, New Jersey. Cymarshall Law will make his way, mic in hand, throughout the rest of the country and overseas before the end of the year.

There’s an incredible benefit concert going on tonight in New York City that you must see if you’re in the area. Sounds of Resistance: A Benefit Concert & Art Show for Haiti is going down from 8pm – 4am and will have performances by Cymarshall Law, J-LIVE, Jeru the Damaja, Donny Goines and more, with special appearances by Just Blaze, Pharoahe Monch and General Steele (of Smif-n-Wessun). Soundclash is New Orleans’ Premier Beat Battle, artist showcase, and industry mixer. Producers go head to head, playing 45 second clips of three beats per single elimination round. There will be a DJ set up with two side inputs for each producer to cue up his or her music and a mic to introduce himself or herself from a CD. We’ll have a panel of established local judges that will take into consideration crowd appeal, originality, and execution in giving a score. In this head to head, single elimination competition, the winner will be the producer with the highest score. The winner will receive a cash prize, photo shoot from TheImmeg.com, a block of studio time from The HUT, a segment on Hip-Hop and Fashion (Cox 76), and a radio spot on Tygah Woods Radio. Also they win a chance for a free trip to compete in regional beat battles as well as another major beat battle such as the Red Bull Big Tune, and other prizes from our sponsors. Soundclash was fortunate to place 4 battlers from our beat battle in Red Bull Big Tune with Hannibal coming in 2nd place in the finals.
