The homie John Public is gonna be performing at Voodoo Lounge in NYC tonight with the Brown Bag All-Stars and DJ Kool Herc. Doors open at 9pm. So if you’re in the area, check em out.

Also, John is doing a contest in promotion for his upcoming album, to be released later this summer. I’ll let John tell you all the details…

“To mark the release of my album ReGifted: Thrift Shop Experience later this summer, I’m debuting a new viral series and contest that focuses on lyricism. The video concept brings together myself and other emcees to drop 16-24 bars of our lyrical best. The contest: whenever a video is posted with Add Lyrics in the subject line from my YouTube channel (youtube.com/JohnPublicFlipcam), the first person to transcribe my particular verse from the video and add it into a comment on my channel will win the prize for that video.

This time around, I’m offering a $20 gift certificate to Fat Beats in NYC. No worries, I can cop the prize and send it to you if you’re from out of town. Other prizes for later videos will include iPods, gift certificates to Best Buy, consulting advice, original clothing, concert tickets and more. While there is no preferential treatment, subscribers to this channel stand the best chance of winning. Peace and good music!”

Man, I keep missing these guys live… and their shows are basically right in my backyard! I promise, Carlos, I’m gonna make one soon. Looks like I missed a good one this last Saturday night as ArtOfficial brought local emcee QuESt up on stage to jam. I’m not up on QuESt, but from the sounds of it I need to be quick! If you’re not either, you can grab his latest mixtape here. The video above features ArtOfficial’s “3/4″ and a new song from QuESt called “Forever” that will be on his Broken Headphones album. The second clip (after the cut) is a brand new ArtOfficial song performed for the first time (”Round & Round”) with QuESt jumping on the last verse.

Props to Alex and UGHH.com for the above footage. During the most recent Rock The Bells on Sunday in Columbia, MD, Inspectah Deck emerged during Raekwon’s set to rally Wu fans in a communal “Fuck Joe Budden.” This continues a beef, which began with Budden incredulously questioning Method Man’s lyrical prowess after being ranked higher than Budden himself in a “Best Rapper Ever List” released online by Vibe Magazine. While Method Man neglected to respond to the insult, Inspectah Deck released a song “House N****” where he calls Joe Budden a “blog thug,” saying “They don’t respect you outside Jersey!” Joe Budden’s response: “While Inspectah Deck may be considered a legend for the one great verse he had in his 30 year career, it’s 2009.” Raekwon sits down with UGHH’s Van Stylez after the performance to discuss his roll in the continuing fued.

In addition, this breaking news just came in… Inspectah Deck is scheduled to perform a one hour set at Rock The Bells this Sunday in Jones Beach. According to my man Alex, “things are going to be VERY interesting, esp since Mef will be back from Europe, and as you saw Rae speak on it…… I will be video taping and trying to follow INS everywhere ! LOL! Truth be told, violence probably wont happen due to respect for the promoter and all he has done for Wu and hip hop, but I’m sure the diss that happened last Sun won’t be shit compared to what comes Joe’s way on Sunday.

Whoa, forget what ya heard… Jay-Z is muthafuckin back! Here’s a clip from his show in Vegas last night, as he gave those in attendance a quick freestyle which is rumored to be the intro to Blueprint 3. Jay goes in hard over everybody… Jaz-O, Dame Dash, The Game…. what? 9/11 can’t come soon enough.

Not many people seemed interested in the Nobody Famous footage I posted last night [view here]. It’s all good, I’m gonna keep posting. This next set is from another artist on my HiPNOTT label, Dasha. So lets see if you can handle a little R&B first thing this morning.  During her set, Dasha ran through some acapellas, her new track on Order Up! Vol 3, and a brand spanking new song from her G.C.-produced debut EP. Look out for the EP to drop around the end of August, with her full length album out this fall!
