Over here in the States during the mid 90’s the hip hop culture was in it’s Golden Era, and you did not have to look far to hear a dope emcee really spittin’. I had absolutely no idea that European rap was experiencing a similar movement that had folks tearing up microphones left and right. So with today being Throwback Thursday, I am going to take time out to pay respect to all the emcees worldwide that can really spit but have not been heard by the masses. Shouts to my homie Mishoo the Drumkit (Mishoo’s Blog) reppin Germany and Rwanda that turned me to these guys.

McKasty aka Paul C the man behind the classic “Critical Beatdown” & “Give the Drummer Some” by the Ultramagnetic MCs (Kool Keith’s group before he went solo). He also produced the demo for a group called Simply Too Postive which later became Organized Confusion. Pete Rock, Domingo and Cut Chemist site Paul C as an influence and he served as mentor for Large Professor in the use of the E-mu SP-1200. Paul C was tragically shot to death in 1989 at the age of 24. His legacy lives in these mixes dedicated by DJ Kid Grebo feat. Prince Po of Organized Confusion.

Here’s the 2nd post for the female DJ edition of Throwback Thursday. This mix is by DJ Step1 of Southern Cali. A vet of hip-hop, she hit the ground running in 2005 with a contest winning mix on KDAY radio. In 2007, Step1 and Shortee collaborated on Bikini Wax, the 1st battle record produced exculsively by female.
Factoid: DJ Step1 is a member of the all female DJ collective called “Females wit’ Funk.”
