It’s Throwback Thursday and today we present to you the Cold Cutz Remixes by the member of the Rock Steady Crew DJ JS-1 and one of the illest DJ’s to wreck the 1s & 2s DJ Spinbad. Check out what JS-1 had to say about the history of this mix, then hit it at the jump and enjoy.

“This is one of the most classic mixtapes ever! It was recorded on a 4-trk cassette recorder in 1995/96 and released in late 1996 into ‘97. It did very well and was covered in several publications. The actual cassette version has a few more tracks than this digital version. This mix has all original hip-hop mixes and blends done with only turntables and a 4-trk.”

Keeping it moving on Throwback Thursday we present to you The Teacha, you know him as KRS-One, Kris Parker, The Blastmaster and The Philosopher.

This mix by DJ Books takes us on a journey through the eyes of Kris.  He sees what we see and teaches us about it and gives us a suggestion on how to make a difference.  In 2008 KRS-One was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for all his work and effort towards the Stop the Violence Movement as well as the overall pioneering of hip-hop music and culture.  Hit it at the jump and enjoy this classic goodness.

Thanks to DJ Books & Kevin Nottingham for continuing to teach the masses about the culture we love called “HIP-HOP.”

This Thursday Throwback I have to take it back with two legends in the game.  DJ Premier and Guru formed Gang Starr and in my opinion one of the best producer/mc duos of all time if not the best.  They are another one of those classic groups that came from the golden era of hip hop when everyone was bringing heat.  Both DJ Premier and Guru easily make the Top Ten in their crafts, hands down.  I hope you all enjoy.

Today is Dr. Dre’s 45th birthday and to show tribute to the best producer the game has ever seen…we present to you his earlier work when he wrecked the 1s & 2s. Hit it at the jump and get these rare classic mixtapes.

Thanx to WYDU & OUHH blogs for the links.

At the request of the fans this Throwback Thursday, I present to you the Lords of the Underground single Chief Rocka.  The Lords of the Undergrond were one of my favorite groups of the 90’s.  I remember having the single on cassette and playing it until the tape popped.  Classic days that have been replaced by the evil mp3 file.

Continuing with the celebration of Dilla, we present another mix by DJ Haylow.  Peep what he says about the mixtape.

“This mix was recorded in 2005, before my transition to serato, so it is 100% Vinyl
(which is notable for today’s standards!) It also features the Pharrell interview……

“On a side note, I learned long after I recorded this mix that there is ONE beat on this mixtape that is NOT a Jay Dee/Dilla beat. See if you can guess which beat it is! ”

Everything after the cut.

It’s Throwback Thursday and today we present this mix by DJ Haylow dedicated to Dilla.  See below for his take on the mixtape.

“Throughout the years, I have recorded 2 mixtapes that pay homage to Dilla, one recorded in 2005, and the other recorded in 2008. As a side story, I interviewed Pharrell of The Neptunes/N*E*R*D* in 2005, and up to that point, I was always a huge fan of Dilla, even dating back to his days when he was Jay Dee. In that interview, Pharrell was naming different producers, and when Dilla’s name came up, he called Dilla ‘The Beat King of All Time’. For some one like Pharrell to say that at the height of his commercial success resonated with me; the one who everyone in mainstream music THOUGHT was the best, was paying homage to someone that pop culture barely knew.  Simply put. Dilla is the Beat King of All Time”

Everything after the cut.

This week I am taking it back to the good ol days when I was a youngster and hip hop was all about just having a damn good time and kicking it with the crew.  This Throwback Thursday, I have to give it up to one of my favorite groups of the era (90’s), Fu-Schnickens with the dope track What’s Up Doc? featuring Shaquille O’ Neal.  Fu-Schnickens had quite a few great singles and even had a pretty good album.  As we all know unfortunately, hip hop changed and many groups like Fu-Schnickens slowly disappeared.  I have to give props to Shaq, he was not the greatest rapper but I will say that he is the only 7′ footer I have seen that can spit period.(Only Slim Thug comes close at 6′8)

How many of you all remember the Shaq-Fu the video game?  Man those were the good ol days.
