Stunting, flossing, catching vapors or whatever you want to call it is never kosher. And Main Source told these suckas that 20 years ago on the track, “Fakin’ The Funk,” which was on the White Men Can’t Rap EP. It also appeared on the re-release of the classic, Breakin Atoms. With Neek the Exotic and Large Pro going extra hard over the gritty beat with that flawless sample from Main Ingredient’s, “Magic Shoes,” this track remains as one of the best from the golden age I miss so much.

By the way… notice how Ed Lover says, “BET, you’re fakin’ the funk!”

I guess history does repeat itself.

I’ve never been a massive fan of kid rappers (still not) but I always got down with the Native Tongue’s youngest member Chi-Ali. He released a few tracks in the early 90’s that I checked for from his album, The Fabulous Chi-Ali, before disappearing after making sporadic appearances by the close of the decade. Unfortunately, we never got to see a comeback from Chi-Ali as he was convicted of second-degree murder in 2001 and is currently serving a 14-year prison sentence. I uncovered this mini-documentary with Chi-Ali speaking from prison about what got him there, the current state of Hip Hop (in 2010), as well as dropping some wise words on what not to do. Clearly, I’m late on this one and if you are too, make sure to take some time to check it out. It’s worth it.

I think it’s pretty to safe to assume that most of our readers might have Hip Hop on the brain, but they definitely have food on the brain today too. In honor of Turkey Day, we present to you a dose of the Ol’ School Fat Kid Diet. Feast your eyes and ears on Fat Boys’ “All You Can Eat,” which was featured in the classic film, Krush Groove. Some highlights from this video include sadness turned excitement in sight of the Sbarro buffet (indigestion, anyone?), eating everything including gigantic raw squashes and the Fat Boys in general.

Another album turned 18 yesterday as well, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Yeah…I know I’m late, but hey. I hope that RZA, Steve Rifkind, or whomever owns the masters to Enter the…. does this album justice in 2013 with a remastered/deluxe set with some extras. Wishful thinking I guess.

Complex continues with their series of interviewing an artist about their favorite songs/albums. This go around they grabbed the Wu-Tang O.G., Method Man. Meth went through some of his hits and provided some entertaining back stories on those tracks. Got me thinking…sometimes I think people forget how nasty Method Man was from 93′ to early 96′. EVERYTHING he touched whether it was a verse or hook was classic. Two of my favorite verses come from GZA‘s classic sophomore album, Liquid Swords (“Shadowboxing) and Rae‘s OB4CL (“Wu-Gambinos). In November 1995 (when Mic‘s debut album, The Natural dropped) I was a 18 yr old freshman at the local community college with no care in the world. Only priorities at that time were attending classes, working weekends, and making it to basketball practice on time. This song reminds me of those care free times with Buckwild‘s warm (but thumping track) and Mic G’s laid back rhymes. The Natural is still in print (just copped the CD from Amazon to replace my cassette) if it’s not in your personal collection.
