Thursday Throwback

It’s Throwback Thursday and today we present this mix by DJ Haylow dedicated to Dilla.  See below for his take on the mixtape.

“Throughout the years, I have recorded 2 mixtapes that pay homage to Dilla, one recorded in 2005, and the other recorded in 2008. As a side story, I interviewed Pharrell of The Neptunes/N*E*R*D* in 2005, and up to that point, I was always a huge fan of Dilla, even dating back to his days when he was Jay Dee. In that interview, Pharrell was naming different producers, and when Dilla’s name came up, he called Dilla ‘The Beat King of All Time’. For some one like Pharrell to say that at the height of his commercial success resonated with me; the one who everyone in mainstream music THOUGHT was the best, was paying homage to someone that pop culture barely knew.  Simply put. Dilla is the Beat King of All Time”

Everything after the cut.

This week I am taking it back to the good ol days when I was a youngster and hip hop was all about just having a damn good time and kicking it with the crew.  This Throwback Thursday, I have to give it up to one of my favorite groups of the era (90’s), Fu-Schnickens with the dope track What’s Up Doc? featuring Shaquille O’ Neal.  Fu-Schnickens had quite a few great singles and even had a pretty good album.  As we all know unfortunately, hip hop changed and many groups like Fu-Schnickens slowly disappeared.  I have to give props to Shaq, he was not the greatest rapper but I will say that he is the only 7′ footer I have seen that can spit period.(Only Slim Thug comes close at 6′8)

How many of you all remember the Shaq-Fu the video game?  Man those were the good ol days.

We present to you another DJ Books mix, this time the artist featured is the one of the original gangsta rappers Kool G Rap. Hit it at the jump for another highly recommended classic mix.  Enjoy!!!
