Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…Pt II is dropping September 8 and The Blueprint 3 will drop on 9/11.  We are planning something huge for the Jigga man leading up to BP3 release and will give Shallah Raekwon some love too.

Until then enjoy the Only Built 4….snippets, the usual Jay-Z chatter, and these lost treasures from Hova and The Chef.

cormega-widetrack

Cormega is dope period.  I’ve always wonder why he isn’t mentioned as a Top rapper of his era? His voice is an acquired taste, his rhymes aren’t too complex; but he paints vivid pictures with his words.  I remember Nas giving him a shout on “One Love” and first hearing his voice on “Affirmative Action” from It Was Written.  I became a fan once I heard snippets of his shelved Def Jam album The Testament (released in 2005) back in 98.

Mega has dropped some dope rhymes during his career…..peep “Thun & Kicko” from Tha Realness [download samples], “Introspective” from The True Meaning [download samples], and his best verse “What’s Ya Poison?” from Mobb Deep’s Murda Muzik.  “What’s Ya Poison?” was my favorite verse until I heard “Radiant Jewels.”

Mega owns this track from Chamber Music [read review] destroying every other verse on the album….yes even Sean P’s!  Its that same ole Mega drug dealing/street/hustling type ish, but damn his words put you right there with him.

Hit the cut for the audio and lyrical break down of the song.

Lyrics from OHHLA

Michael Jackson: R.I.P.

michael_jackson-young-1

As you all know Michael Jackson died yesterday.  I’ve been watching t.v., reading all of the tweets, reading all of the reports on the net, looking at video’s, listening to his music, since coming back into my house around 8 pm last night.

I remember staying in front of the t.v. waiting for the “Thriller” video to come on.  I remember watching Michael break out the moon walk on the Motown 25 special.  I remember my little cousin knowing every word of every song on the Thriller album.  I remember when Michael’s curl caught on fire on the set of the Pepsi commercial.  I remember the numerous surgery’s.  I remember some of the weird behavior, court cases, and his last album.

I know he paved the way for many of artist we love.  I know his music is universal and for everyone.  I know people love(d) this man.  I know his catalog is GREAT.  I know he sold millions of records.  I know Hip Hop was influenced by his music.  I know I can’t believe Michael Jackson is dead.  What do you remember about Michael?

Thoughts and prayers with his family.

mos_def-pic

At the top of the year Mos performed six shows at the The Blue Note Jazz Club in NY backed by the RCDC Experiment.  During this particular show Mos covers Kanye’s “Say You Will” from 808’s & Heartbreak and kills it.

This track has been floating around the net since April, but we thought we would share for those who may have missed it.  Grab this track and a dope compilation titled The Mighty Mos Def: The Underground Album after the cut.

Props to Its All the Way LiveNah Right via Ruby Hornet.

I just recently upgraded my cassette tape of AZ’s stellar debut album Doe or Die to CD.  When the finances allow I do this from time to time.  After giving the album a few spins and  “refreshing my memory” a few things jump out.

Track of the Day: The Sun

by Thomas on April 25, 2009 · 5 comments

ghost-rza-rae-slick

This is for our homie Alex.  While we were compiling the set for Ghostface’s Bulletproof Wallets we searched forever and a day for the sample source for “The Sun,” but never was able to locate it.  Well last night while searching The Breaks a contribtor on the forums (Beeboy) posted the source and link for the song!

This song was released officially on Ghost and Trife’s Put It On The Line album.  From my understanding the track wasn’t included on BPW because Rza forgot what he sampled for the song, thus Epic wasn’t able to clear the sample.

Anyhoo….enjoy!

Rass Kass

Love this picture!  Ras Kass is one of the dopest lyricist that the West has to offer in Hip Hop.  However, his production has always been an Achilles heel (along with label drama/incarceration).
