J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League vs. Just Blaze

Alec R. Costandinos: “Quasimodo’s Marriage”
From the album Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1978)

Blood Raw: “Get Away”
From the album My Life: The True Testimony (2008)
Produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League

Beanie Sigel: “What Ya Life Like Pt. 2″
From the album The Reason (2001)
Produced by Just Blaze

Here we are… another edition of “Who flipped it better?”. Thomas actually came up with this one. I had never heard the Blood Raw track before. The original sample is a nice composition. Just Blaze sampled is first, but did the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League put enough spin on it to justify sampling it again? So check the tracks, check the original, and tell us what you think!

Who flipped it better?

Sittin’ On Chrome: Original Samples

I meant to get this up yesterday, but better later than never! Sittin’ On Chrome is Masta Ace’s third album and probably his best known work. Sadly, it was his last before he went missing from the hip hop scene until Ace made his comeback in 2001. The samples are just as good here as they were on the previous two releases. Enjoy!

Every Little Brother Track You Could Ever Want That Is Not On Any Of Their Retail Albums

I think the title speaks for itself. This post goes out to all Little Brother fans who have bought The Listening, Chitlin’ Circuit 1.5, The Minstrel Show, GetBack, And Justus For All, Separate But Equal and still want more Little Brother. But more specifically, this post goes out to Jon, who keeps asking in my C-Box, “hey what ever happened to upping those japanese little brother tracks?”. This post is for YOU.

I was originally gonna put together a short download of all LB international and bonus cuts, but I knew somebody had done this before, so I figure… why duplicate the work? What you will find, right after the jump is two must have compilations for any Little Brother fan. Two compilations that equal a whopping total of seven discs! Yes, 7 CDs. That’s more music than they’ve actually released. Some of it may be duplicated between the two sets, but in there should be every international bonus cut, non-album track, collaboration tracks from other peoples albums, etc that you could ever want. Props to GetBackArmy.com and DotGotIt.com for making these sets available…

Punchline: Attitude

Hot new video from Punchline off his On Smash Mixtape, Vol 1!

SlaughtaHouse: Original Samples

SlaughtaHouse was the second release from Masta Ace, only this time around he recorded with his crew Masta Ace Incorporated, consisting of Ace, Lord Digga, Paula Perry, Eyceurokk and Leschea.

This set includes a good mix of funk and jazz as SlaughtaHouse was notable for infusing West Coast funk-influenced beats with rough New York rhyming. For those wondering where the samples for the hidden track “Born To Roll” are, they’ll be included in the Sittin’ on Chrome set. Only track missing from this set is Earth, Wind & Fire’s ”Handwriting on the Wall”.  I have every single Earth, Wind & Fire album and this track is not on any of them. If anyone knows where I can find it, leave a comment.

Take A Look Around: Original Samples

This set right here is dedicated to my man DJ SoulClap.  I got you man! SoulClap is a huge fan, so we gonna be hittin up the Masta Ace archives and hook up the sample sets. I figure we’ll start with his 1990 debut album, Take A Look Around.

Mostly produced my one of my favorite producers, Marly Marl, Take A Look Around sampled some great funk records from the likes of James Brown, Grand Funk Railroad, Lee Dorsey, and Monk Higgens. One nice gem on here that was hard to hunt down is “Razor Blade” by Little Royal and the Swingmasters.

This set also has a good combination of soul as well, giving us classics from Otis Redding, Eric Kendricks, and Gil Scott-Heron.

New Music Tuesday: 11/18/08

Here we go… another Tuesday, another handful of music releases. There are a few good albums coming out today that are pretty much under the radar. All albums will probably be overshadowed by Beyonce’s double length I Am… Sasha Fierce. I haven’t heard this yet, but I must admit, I am a Beyonce fan. Anyone know if Jay makes an appearance on this?

Anyway, let’s move on to the other releases. Also in R&B we have the debut from the fine and talented Shontelle. Watch out Beyonce! This lady is something special… definitely one to look for. The other album that I feel is worth picking up is the new one from El Da Sensei & The Returners. I’ve been bumping this album since it was released overseas a couple of months ago. Today it finally gets a proper U.S. release. Digital only though, which sucks. I’d love to have a hard copy of this. The other album I’d like to check is the new D.I.T.C. Anyone heard it yet? I may have to “preview” before I buy. Check the poll below for everything else. If I missed anything, leave a comment.

What are you coppin' today?

Keelay & Zaire featuring Blu, Fortilive, Nino Moshella & Tunji

Still cleaning out my inbox, I found these 2 gems that Tunji sent me a couple of weeks ago. This production duo should not be slept on! Zaire is the cat that produced the Emilio Rojas track I dropped on you all earlier this month.

These two new joints are from Keelay & Zaire’s album Ridin’ High, dropping February 21st. The album is entirely produced by Kee & Zee and features appearances from Phonte, Blu, Torae, Tunji, Supastition, Cali Agents and more.

Ill Poetic Presents… Outkast Meets NIN: Nine Inch NAliens

I know I’m late on this one. I think Ill Poetic sent this to me a couple of months ago and I know I’ve seen it on other blogs since then. At any rate, it’s still worth a post up here.  Outkast and Nine Inch Nails? Who would have thought? Definitely worth checking out.

Statik Selektah: Stick 2 The Script

I won’t front, I had to backspace on Patrick Baril’s name a few times. Contrary to his demands, it is still very hard to spell Statik Selektah right. Even though it is hard to correctly type the moniker of the DJ/Producer out of Massachusetts, it was certainly not hard to enjoy his previous album, Spell My Name Right. The founder of Showoff Records proves that he is not a one-trick pony and follows his stellar debut with a solid sophomore piece entitled Stick 2 The Script. Similar to his previous work, Statik manages to get some of hip hop’s biggest names over his boom bap, catchy, and technically perfect production. The names range from familiar collaborators Termanology, Freeway, and Royce to new appearances from Bun B, Redman, and CL Smooth. After delivering one of the best performances of 2007, Statik returns and delivers another performance worth mentioning when compiling any top 10 list for 2008.

Stunts, Blunts, & Hip Hop: Original Samples

Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop is the 1992 debut album from hip hop producer/emcee Diamond D, released with his crew the Psychotic Neurotics. The album features some of the earliest appearances from Diamond’s later D.I.T.C. partners Big L and Fat Joe, as well as production from popular beatmakers such as Large Professor, Q-Tip and DJ Mark the 45 King.

The samples that make up this album are simply amazing. What you have here is over 2 1/2 hours worth of quality music of soul, funk, and jazz. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon. After you’re done listening to this, wipe the dust off your old Diamond D album and give that a spin.

G.C. Presents… Freshness: The Sampler

Most of you may remember G.C. as the producer who nearly dominated every week in our last remix contest. Since the contest ended a few months ago, I’ve sort of taken G.C. under my wing and he signed me up as his manager. G.C. has been busy working hard on new beats.  He’s got a project in the works with emcee Trav Williams and has a few placements on upcoming albums with Vice and Tudakay.

This beat sampler is a collection of beats that have not been commited to any artist yet.  We’re looking for any emcee interested to hop on these tracks for inclusion in G.C.’s first album, Freshness. So if you’re interested and think you got what it takes, hit me up!
