This is the first of many music reviews I will be writing on this site. The goal here is to give you track info, to include production credits, my personal review of each song on the CD, and a rating of 1-10 (with 10 being the absolute highest score). So let’s get on with the review!
Ms. Kelly is Kelly Rowland’s sophomore release since the disbanding of Destiny’s Child. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years since Kelly’s debut album, Simply Deep! Well, it has and Kelly has definitely grown up. Ms. Kelly is much more mature sounding than her previous effort. This CD did not make my Top 12 Most Anticipated Albums of The Summer list simply because I was not initially impressed with the first single, Like This. I’m listening to the CD for the first time right now and so far I like what I hear. Here’s my track by track review:
01. “Like This (featuring Eve)” - produced by Polow Da Don (6/10) - like most songs they force feed on the radio, this song have kind of grown on me. If I would have rated this song when I first heard it, I probably would have gave it a 4 or 5. The vocals are pretty weak, as well as the production and Eve’s verse. Which is surprising cuz Polow Da Don usually does good work and I also like Eve. Oh well, thank the airplay Kelly, you got bumped up to a 6.
02. “Comeback” - produced by Scott Storch (9/10) - There’s no denying Scott Storch can make a hit; I don’t know why I don’t give him his props. This is an uptempo song and could easily be heard in the clubs. Nice hook!
03. “Ghetto (featuring Snoop Dogg)” - produced by Durrell “Tank” Babbs (9/10) - I like the flow on this one. Kelly’s voice is soft and seductive on this mid-tempo jam. Snoop’s verse is short, but typical — doesn’t really add anything to the track.
04. “Work (Put It In)” - produced by Scott Storch (8/10) - alright, another hot production from Storch! When I first heard it, I thought it was Beyonce on this uptempo track. This song is single material, but it’s a little too repetitive to me. The song doesn’t have any dynamics. Hot, but could be better.
05. “Flash Back” - produced by Charlie and Kenny Bereal (4/10) - I’ve heard a few people say they like this song, but it’s kind of boring to me. A slow jam that made me click “next”!
06. “Every Thought Is You” - produced by Dana “Rockwilder” Stinson and Loren Dawson (5/10) - another slow jam that doesn’t really do anything for me. It’s a little better than the last track, but… “next”!
07. “The Show (featuring Tank)” - produced by Durrell “Tank” Babbs (9/10) - now THIS is a slow jam! Although it’s really Tank that steals “The Show”. This is that song you put on when you’re trying to move things over into the bedroom!
08. “Interlude” - produced by Billy Mann (10/10) - where’s the rest of the song?!?! So far, the best song on the CD and it’s a damn 1 minutes interlude! Nice soft piano backing Kelly’s soothing voice. The piano is hypnotic and finally Kelly sings!
09. “Still In Love With My Ex” - produced by Soulshock & Karlin (8/10) - this song is a nice mid tempo track. Could be single material. This CD may have some potential after all.
10. “Love” - produced by Mysto & Pizzi / co-written by Solange Knowles (5/10) - another mid tempo song. Not really feeling this. Maybe she should have gotten Beyonce instead of her younger sis to help out!
11. “Better Without You” - produced by Charlie and Kenny Bereal (5/10) -man, what is this?!?! Another slow jam… glad there’s only one more track left!
12. “This Is Love” - produced by Billy Mann (9/10) - who is this Billy Mann?!?! He writes some pretty nice songs. Very nice, smooth slow song with Kelly’s voice over an acoustic guitar and some occasional strings.
Well, there you have it… overall rating for the album 7/10. Which I think is generous. There were a few nice songs, but a lot of filler. And it’s pretty bad when the best song on your CD is a 1 minute interlude!!! Anyway, if you want to check out Ms. Kelly, you’ll have to wait until July 3rd when it’s official released in stores.
Coming up tomorrow: My review of T.I.’s new release — T.I. vs. T.I.P.

Aw, thanks for the sweet comment, baby. Trust me, I was generous towards Ms. Kelly. Not sure if you would particularly care for it, but I’ll play it for you when you come down.
